I had said in a previous post i was thinking of getting the new ducati 848 streetfighter or the kawasaki z1000. Now, i have decided i (probably) dont want the duc but i dont really want the kawi either. i rode the kawi and liked it but i will ride the ducati as soon as im in indianapolis. But the new bike i reeally like is the speed triple. I started looking into that one lately and like it more than the duc and kawi and somehow its more affordable barely used. I will also ride that once im in indianapolis also which should be soon. I just wanted to know your guys's take on the speed triple before i go ride it. Those of you that have maybe had it, any issues? Anyone just give me your .02 cents haha. And yes i know from earlier everyone said get the tuono which i agree is totally awesome, but unaffordable for me.
P.S. i never really saw how awesome you guys are in this forum until i went to ducati's, and dealt with allthe stuck up dickheads lol

The best engine configuration however Triumphs are notorious for their crappy gearboxes, grabby brakes, OK quality, hard-to-get and ridiculously expensive parts. Get the 1st 2 issues checked out other than that they are pretty reliable and give great mpgs. I am going to add a Daytona 675 later this year which fortunately doesn't suffer from any of these issues as they get sold a lot.

Guy here at work has one. He doesn't get to ride it much because it's always in the shop. Starting issues... fueling issues..... electrical issues.... He did not get to ride it much at all last season. Right now, he's trying to unload it so get a different bike. His is a 2010 and he's only been able to put 4300 miles on it in almost three years.

His experience has soured any consideration from me of wanting one but this is just me.

Sounds like it is related to my old Buell...That bike was a pain in the ass.

You are better off just sticking with a Japanese bike.
I used to own a 08 speed triple and had problems. The built quality is not good. It used to jump out of gear sometimes and just scare the crap out of me. Also the dash would get water in it when it rained and when I spoke to the dealer about it he just ignored the problem.
The first time I washed the bike paint started coming off the side covers, Top stuff LOL!!
I just couldn't get the piece of crap to handle the way I wanted it to even after setting the sag adjust rebound and compression it was still crap and then it had a bad vibration at about 180kph that felt like a tyre was about to blow.
I look at it like this Triumph couldn't even put the breather pipe and over flow pipe on the right connectors on the tank so what else have they stuffed up when building the bike. I could go on if you like but I sold it just after 3 months of owner ship and will not buy another Triumph. The Speed Triple is a great looking bike but that's as far as it goes.
I now have a KTM super duke and this bike is heaps better but as I said stick with Japanese bikes as they just keep going.

I have no experience with the Speed Triple other than a couple of test rides. I loved the bike and the sound of that triple was pretty intoxicating, but it appears that the build quality (typical British...sorry) is not up to par with the Japanese bikes. A used '10 or '11 Z1000 might be a good buy...

Check out the Tuono again. If you have a good dealer that maybe a better option than the Triumph. From what the owner of my local Ape dealer tells me the V2 Tuono is a very reliable bike. Ask the guys on the Aprilia Forum and see what they have to say. Aside from this forum, the Aprilia Forum has the sharped people I've met on the web.

All I know is with 675 miles my Tuono V4R has been perfect! :)

You know what, every used triple I have seen (sans the daytona) has had rusty bits, faded looking parts, powdercoating, rattle can spray engine paint. Somehow Daytona being their flagship bike, the quality is a lot better.

Looks cool from a distance. Never rode one. Have only heard about the electrical problems of Triumphs. (I didn't like the Tiger 1050 I test rode)

Your comment about the price compared to the Aprilia is strange. They are about the same price, right? $12-13K range?

675? Figured you'd have more now.....

A few years ago I had a 1998 Triumph Thunderbird and the build quality was very good and the reliability was good for a 10 yo bike. Haven't heard that their sportbikes were as bad as what people are reporting here. It is very hard to beat the overall quality and reliability of a Japanese bike or car. They always start and hang together.

Maybe they weren't outsourcing their work in 1998? I'm wondering about build quality and decisions to outsource being related.....in bikes and in gear. I believe I've seen a decline in leather products, for example. Just asking, really......

I thought the Daytona also had crazy expensive parts ?

I have an 07 Daytona and I can tell you the parts are at the same price point as all of the other manufacture. As far as the reliability issues mentioned I have not heard of any or have I had any. I also have a Bonneville and it is a great bike I am a big fan of Triumph's products and would not hesitate to but a Street or a Speed Tripple.
