Which bike do you get if you are buying a new bike between a 2012 Honda CBR1000R or a 2012 Yamaha YZF R1 to add to your garage (and keep the FZ1)? :) :)

Well, decisions, decisions....I don't think either bike will be bad, but I would lean toward the Honda (in the red/white/blue color scheme). The big news for the Yamaha is TC, but from all the reviews I've read the Honda is very easy to ride fast and it's considerably lighter. Plus the R1 underseat exhaust will cook your left leg in the Summer. At least that was my experience during a test ride last year...

So mostly all concur with my liking of the CBR. :) So now begs the question.......what do I sell to make this happen? I've got an extra car (or rather, we have 2--so I'd rather lose one and gain another bike!) and I don't want to sell my FZ1.........hmmmmm. Or finance it, but who wants that? Not I.

Well the Honda hasn't changed drastically recently. Do you have to have a new one or will a low mileage '10 or '11 model do?

I would sell the car before I finance it that's for sure. Personally I never finance "toy" purchases...

Yeah, I think an '09 or later would be fine. I know the engine was changed in 08, but that year had a oil burning issue to some degree.....

A large part of the 2012 model is upgraded suspension, I think. So yes, I could probably go with a '10 or '11. I know of at least one place where they still have new '11 model. I really haven't researched completely to see what the differences are, but the expression of my friend's face, who raced these a couple years ago, when he talks of the new 2012 makes me very interested in that :) BTW, he currently has a BMW S1000R and is underimpressed.

I still hate the fact that Yamaha hasn't put the front turn signals in the mirrors, like on the CBR and GSXR.

Have you considered a GSXR?

Besides the exhaust I think this is the best looking of the three. (once you go black...)

What do you guys think of the cross-plane engine on the R1?

You may find if you break a mirror/signal, the cost of replacement may make you wish they were seperate

My friend and I just went 2 saturdays ago and bought a new leftover 2010 CBR (for him). He got it for $10,500. He is thrilled with it, but watchout!! NO FUEL GUAGE hahahah. He was bumbed about that, though not a deal breaker.

So, a friend of mine wants to sell his 07 and I think I could get a good deal........hmmmmm

The range on nada is 6-8K

Well, it looks like I could get this 07 for close to 6K........what do you guys think?

Less than 4K miles.......down once at low speed. He recently got it for the track but prefers a 600 for his size and comfort.

I know the owner personally.

"all stock except for levers, rearsets, a carbon can and a Bazzaz quickshifter GP-shift"
