So I'm tossing the idea around of getting a replacement for the SV this coming winter. While it is a fabulous bike and I enjoy riding it, it takes a fair bit of abuse living with me. I would also just love a change.

I would like to get some feedback on potential bikes so I can do some research. :)

I have only a few needs:

- Budget under $6000... I think
- Must have the ability to take a full complement of Givi cases
- Nothing over 1149cc for insurance purposes
- Decent fuel economy and range (somewhere in the 35-40 MPG range with a tank that can manage 150+ miles maybe)
- Something more on the compact side, nothing enormous like a V-Strom... even the Gen 1 was a bit porky

So I have a few bikes in mind already:

- Gen 2 FZ1
- Versys
- Honda 919
- New Ninja 1000

Ideas? :)

I'm not sure. It is the 2 valve motor and air cooled I believe. I know a nice one with a exhaust and some suspension is in the price range your looking in.

Hard to go wrong with the FZ, great bike, fast, comfortable, and well built. I have givi set-up and it really flows with the bike, don't even notice them when riding. I have 13K miles and the bike still looks brand new. Nothing rusts and you can wind the motor to infinity. Also stable at high speeds.

The FZ is a big contender just because of how well built it is and that awesome motor. I had never considered a BMW. What models should I look at? I'm a big fan of sport nakeds.

I think a Ducati is out. I had considered a Monster before but I figured out that I would be doing the valves something like five times a year or something ludicrous

That's really selling it for me. There is a lot to like about that thing and the 1100 sounds pretty solid.

I will scour the American Craigslists and see what they run down there.

Almost any BMW with a 1200 in the name. They have several different versions. It is the ones with the heads hanging out the sides. As a side note, the BMW riders are just about as over the top as Harley riders.

I have a friend that loves his Duc but the maintenance would scare me. The Kaw Versys is kind of cool but I would think the lack of power on the highway would get old after an FZ1.

ya they are a sweet naked bike. It was a consideration for me but i couldn't find one in my price range. You could look at the triumph tigers the older ones are ugly but the newer ones are pretty slick they are more of a touring bike.

Gen2 FZ1 or Ninja 1000.......

both bikes are build pretty good, don't seem to have any defects and maintanace is for sure cheaper than ducati.

There is also another + and that is that you have plenty of parts on the web for cheap prices if you wanna change the stock look or if you just need them because the old ones are damaged or unusable any more, and I don't have to tell you that for the FZ1 you can have any type of feedback on this forum, all you need to do is ASK!!
