Gen I vs GenII.

Gen 1's are cheaper to buy :-)
Really?? Seems to me the market for the GenI has held up better than the II. I personally purchased a low mileage 06 II ($3400 1.5 years ago, minor cosmetics) for less than what I often see I's going (today) for in good nick. Circumstances vary of course but the GenIIs can be had for cheap. Leaves $ for the upgrades which are necessary to transform the bike into what it should be. . . .

If you fall on the sport side of touring go with a gen2 if you fall on the touring side of sport touring go with the Gen1. They ate both fantastic motorcycles. Regardless of color mine is the fastest.

Really your the fastest?! I don't remember things that way!

So what can you do to a Gen 2 to make it more comfortable (upright)?

Not sure that that alone will make it more comfortable, but the easiest thing to do is change the handle bar risers to taller ones. One other aspect where the Gen II seems to be lacking is comfort in the seating area.

Thanks. I'm going to get a Gen 2 but I'd like to make it comfortable like my old Gen 1. I'm looking at the pivoting riser extensions. I'll take my seat to a local shop. Thanks again.

Yea the bars are easy enough to fix with those pivoting riser extensions. Just remember that the stock cables and hoses only have a limited range so if you go too far it might entail longer brake hoses, etc...

If you have a local shop that does good work I'm sure they can rework the seat to suit your needs at a relatively low cost.
