Windows 7 slooooowwww

So the "System Idle Process" is at 50% of the CPU, and "svchost.exe" alternates with System Idle.

Any other ideas?

Yes Johnny, I know, buy a Mac...

Pete, the svchost.exe is a generic term used by Microsoft. It's used to run/launch a variety of services. Sounds like one of them may be using up a lot of the resources. If you want to do some further investigating this page explains it all:

svchost is a generic application/service lifecycle management container. I sometimes kinda hate it. You can check what services it is running, if not important, you can just kill it or some of its services. But something has changed in windows offlate. I hardly see the svchost running these days on my desktop.

Whittlebeast called me this morning and was kind enough to walk me thru What Running. Very nice little apparently, thanks Andy.

No outright virus but I did kill some HP bloatware and I did find some odd apparently I didn't know were installed. Like an IM apparently I'd never heard of.

I also uninstall Kaspersky and install the MA AV apparently instead. It appears to be running much better.

Thanks for the help everyone! Hopefully this is it for a while. :)

I have an 18 mo old machine that is slow as well. I'm beginning to research what I actually need at start up to function.

HP as well, Envy 17.

So I called for another issue, and it looks like I'm going to get a brand new machine. Similar spec but with updated hardware and hopefully not all the headaches experienced with the original one......:thewave:

I bought a Thinkpad with W7 recently. Work all right... not as bullet proof as my MacBook, but much better than Vista!

I used Google web browser for a bit and now trying Firefox. Firefox is a little faster than Safari on the Mbook. Work very well with W7 too. Didn't even bother trying Internet Explorer...
