This group should be planning a ride for next summer. When I had my H-D's I would sign up for a couple state rallys every year just to have a destination. I went everywhere from Arizona to Maine and in between including a trip to Billings Montana. It was't so much about partying, which I stay away from, but meeting people with similar tastes and the trip getting there. The trip doesn't have to be expensive either. Last summer I went to Lake Havasu and back during an 11 day 6600 mile ride and only spent about $1200. Of course I wasn't saying in any Hiltons either but there are plenty of privately owned motels that you can get for $30-$40 a night. Anyway, one of HOG's sayings that I liked was, It's not about the destination, it's about the journey. Let's put our heads together and get something together for next summer.:sport12::sport12:

That sounds like an excellent idea. I know there are several of us here in the NE and I wouldn't mind planning a trip somewhere...Smoky Mountains anyone :D

I plan to attend Americade 2010 in Lake George, New York. This is happening June 7-June 12, 2010. I don't think I will go for all the days. Have never been there and have friends that go all the time so I think it's about time I join them next year :)

I'm planning a trip from Colorado Springs, CO through Pullman, WA to Coos Bay Oregon sometime in June 2010. The plans aren't final yet but if anyone is interested in going along or meeting somewhere along the way I'd be up for that. I'd like to go through Yellowstone and the Tetons again (we went in 2004). On the first part of the trip I'll be going slow and sight seeing. I usually ride 300 to 400 miles a day depending on the sights. On the return leg of the trip it'll probably be the most direct path and full speed ahead, I may even end up throwing the bike in the back of my wife's pick up part of the way depending on time and money.

That being said, if there is an organized meet somewhere in the northwest or southwest I'd be up for that too.

A Google map of my planned trip is here...

If can get some free time, straight shot up 25 to Colorado Springs. Then I'm sure not that far to hiT some back country mountain roads.

I'm hoping to maybe log some miles next year by riding when I've got to go do inspections of jobsites for upcoming projects.

Anybody comes riding through western Oregon, I'd be interested. I do an annual ride with some women from the pashnit website, and at least a couple others during the year. I really want to get to the southwest sometime soon!

Keep the ideas coming

This is the type of idea that can die quickly so lets keep up the input. We might even need more than one. East Coast/West Coast or more. I realize a lot of people are confined by time. If the expected distance is kept to 1000 miles, a round trip can be made in an average of four days. Maybe something scheduled for a holiday weekend or something like that. I've been all over the western half of the U.S. but because I live closer to the eastern half, that's where I've actually traveled the least. I do like Pennsylvania for it's mountains.

So, I am plotting and planning a route in Oregon that will include basing at Union Creek Lodge (23 miles outside of Crater Lake Nat'l Park) and include at least two days of round-trip adventures that will make for 8+ hour days in the saddle.

One day will be a Crater Lake day--not any mileage, but a full day of the park and two other scenic areas along the Rogue River just outside of Union Creek. One day is riding a loop that includes Oregon SR 227 to Canyonville, slightly north on I5 to Winston, North Bank Rd. to Oregon SR 138 and back to Union Creek. The second ride day is up to Oregon SR 58, over Forest Service Rd. 19 (known as the Aufderheide) to SR 126, over McKenzie Pass (SR 242, which has fresh licorice on the western slope) to Bend, then south on Forest Service Rd 46 (known as the Cascade Lakes Hwy) and back to Union Creek.

I will scout ride day 2 when weather permits...it is a long day, but some fantastic roads and scenery. Day one is a shoe in.

Rooms at Union Creek are $55 a night for the lodge (small room, sink/coffee/microwave with common bathrooms) and from $90-$110 for the private cabins, some with multi bedrooms. With enough notice, the entire lodge can be had for a large enough group.

I would suggest August/early Sept for this ride. I was there this year in late August, and weather was teriffic. The flu I had on the way home was not, however.

I live right on the edge of the front range, the mountains are twenty minutes from my house, and there are several great routes to go. Feel free to contact me when you're in the area.

As for the trip I'll keep updating as I finalize plans. Due to time constraints and the general topography of Wyoming and north central Colorado a lot of the ride will be through flat barren landscape, although there are stretches like this to look forward to...

The Vmax Owners Association is grouped into regions and usually organize rides that way. Of course they're an actual organization with several years at it but maybe something like that would work here. Just figure out where most people are clustered and try to have some regional meets. I usually like to ride alone but his is an interesting idea and sounds like it could be fun.

Motorcycle only

There are some Motorcycle only campgrounds around. "Toadrock" in British Columbia's interior for one. surrounded by excellent roads in all directions. Helps to keep the costs down to Gas, and Meals. Not nescesarily in that order.
