Last weekend I went back to Hidden Falls Adventure Park for some off road on the DRZ. I also took a full day dirt riding class Saturday while there.
Took the tiger to work on Wednesday this week. Beautiful but hot day out.
Taking the tiger to round rock tomorrow hunting for dirt and gravel roads the entire way from Houston.

Rear Tire and Brakes
Finally broke down and installed a new tire on the rear. I have been trying to hold off as long as possible so I had a fresh rear for the big trip at the end of July. I was down to 1mm of tread in the center of my Heidenau K-60's after 17,000 kms. It was gouged, split and had a cut in the sidewall so I figured it had done it's time. I installed a new tractor tire that has had great reviews with a really good life expectancy, a Mitas E-07 Dakar. Time will tell, but it feels good so far. It is noisier but sticks in the corners well, although I was being cautious, since it had rained this morning just before the test run to check my static balance. I had to run out and buy new rear pads as the old ones were pretty much toast.

I changed the tire by hand, using three tire irons when the tires were cold, and what a bear! My hands are aching, but at least I know that I can do it trail-side if need be. I thought that the Heidenau K-60 was a monster to change, but the 4-ply Dakar version of the Mitas E-07 is just as bad. Yikes! I used lots of proper tire lube and was patient. The toughest thing is breaking the bead, but even after that it is still a tough job by hand. Much easier when the tire is hot as I discovered last year on Grey Creek pass. I had to inflate it to 55 psi before the last two sections of bead would seat and then dropped it to 36 which is what I'll run except off-road. As always when I change a tire a new Heavy Duty inner-tube went in. Old one will come along as a spare on the trip.

I've got fork seals & fork oil on the way for the VFR. The bike has been feeling pretty sloppy since I returned from Austin and I think the steering bearings need to be retorqued and the suspension rebuilt. I've not got the same feel and confidence in the front end as before and the front chatters under braking. Also, I find the bike goes wide in turns now where before it would hold an excellent line. Bumps are bouncy and unpleasant which is a big change from just a few months ago.
Hopefully the rebuild and refresh does the trick

Went for a nice little 390 mile ride this morning with my buddy Glen. My buddy had an itch to try a Donut shop in Round Rock Texas. The supposedly "world famous" Round Rock Donuts. I was skeptical but game for a ride.
We decided to just zig zag county roads the entire way from Chappell Hill Texas to Round Rock avoiding highways as much as possible. We were looking for gravel and dirt everywhere we could.
One of the first county roads we dived down there were some cows by the fence that I thought would make a good photo op. They moved away from the fence when we jumped off our bikes. We took the shots anyway.
We stopped by Lake Somerville for a quick water break and photo op.
One of than many dirt county roads we found. This little wooden bridge was the best photo op of the day and one of a very few dead ends we came across.
Believe me when I say the donuts were totally worth it. I had an apple fritter and a chocolate glaze and they were by far the best I have had. Better than Shipley's and better than Krispy Crème. Will upload donut photos later.

Went for a 250 mile ride this morning. First stop, a Speedway gas station at about 70 miles away in Saginaw for an emergancy S * * T! Almost didn't make it....
Then rode over to the place my wife and I ran a half marathon in April, I can say...it sure was easier riding the 13.1 miles than it was running it! This school was the start and finish line.

After riding around another hour or so I started making my way to Bay City for a sandwich at Jimmy Johns, didn't make it. I stopped at a Chinese Buffet in Frankenmuth instead, LOL.

Screen Test
The weather was crap, and I was feeling a bit under it so I found something to keep me occupied. I have been thinking about a Rally Style fairing in orange, so I tried it out with some left over decal material I had lying around. I like the results.
It looks more the Rally Bike Part, and I can always peel it off if it decide I don't like it.

They will be going on the Colorado Trip and most of the Colorado Miles will be off pavement so I should have a great deal of experience to relate. I will be shocked if they give me the kind of mileage the Hiedenau's do but we will see. I bought them from MX1 Canada. MX1 CANADA Motocross : Enduro : Rally : Dual Sport

Not today but I sold mine with a lot of help from my motohubby. I just didn't have the knowledge or confidence to get it running again. New owner is enthusiastic and certain it'll be on the road in a month or so. it's dual sport time!
