I typically keep cars for 200K and I've never had one that used any oil. Lucky I guess, although commuting might have helped make a difference.

I'd say that's lucky. I have never had one that didn't use some oil.
Mine are old beaters, though. Only one has under 200k.
Well, the FZ1 has only 77,000.

Break in is crucial. Baby it too much and will always burn oil because the rings never seated. Once the crosshatch is worn away, nothing left to seat them...

Mine uses way more than a pint between oil changes. More like a quart every thousand or so miles, and I don't consider that to be excessive.

I think I add a quart around 1500 miles to get me to the 3k mark.

I have a 2007 Silverado with the 4.8 v8 in it. does not leak or burn oil, 210k miles. I also have a 2012 Suburban with the 5.3 v8 in it and it burns a bunch of oil.
