Thoughts on exhaust close to the tire.

Hello Everyone,

So I was cleaning and lubing the bike tonight and I realized how close my exhaust is to the rear tire. I started to wonder how hot it gets and if if will affect the tire. I assume the effects would be minimal but I thought I might ask if anyone has ever measured exhaust temps? I haven't noticed much "blueing" unless I've been on a particularly spirited ride and it's on both sides.

Chad have you noticed any issues? I know you have a similar setup. Anyone else with a shorty exhaust care to chime in?

As usual thanks in advance all.

why not rotate the canister to the 4 o'clock position to exhaust it out away from the tire and swing arm?

Well it won't clear the swing arm then. It's hard to see, but the exhaust flow doesn't point at the tire. I'm more worried about the radiated heat from the canister itself. Thanks for the suggestion.

I've seen a few bikes that have exhausts like that from the factory. The Ninja 650R comes to mind straight away. The exhaust exits very close to the rear tire, there's maybe a fingers width between the two if I remember right. I can't imagine it's a problem but perhaps you could put some of that stick on shiny insulation stuff on that side of the exhaust. You have a fair amount of clearance there, though

Huh, never thought about that. Good suggestion.

Ehh, go ride. My Buell 1125R muffler was considered a tire warmer.

Good advice sir.

I have actually been wondering the same thing myself. I took quite the long ride on Sunday morning, about 125 miles, and when I got home, I immediately put my hands on the tire in different places. It was evenly warm, no spot seemed hotter than others. I think you are fine. It is really close though!!

What size of inlet do you have? I have some Danmoto tri oval costom made 12" long with DBK. 2" inlet... they are a little less bulky and should fit better.

Once the bike is moving I can't imagine the exhaust having much of an impact on tire temperature.

Yeah I figured, but no sure so I thought I would ask.

Thanks for the input. Makes me feel better. I noticed one side was just a little warmer for me. I need an IR heat gun to confirm though.

Also 2'' inlet. PM me. Thanks.
