For the FZ there will just be some finishing touches. After Petes success with his re-flash, re-flashing is at the top of the list. I have to redo my gauge cover vibration fix again and need a right side inner fairing, one of my mounting tabs cracked. outside of that my FZ is complete and awesome.

I just received some rearsets for the Hawk and need to do a couple of other mods to make them work. A pressure switch for the rear brake light, a longer brake line and I have to shorten the reservoir hose. The wife has decided to take levels 1 & 2 of the california superbike school when they come to town in May, so a Penske shock will be installed and Racetech springs and valving up front.

The ZX6R just received a track tank and I will be ordering body work hopefully this week.

Well this is my current project list for the winter

Too funny Johnny, I was thinking about post up the same thread but fell asleep instead.

My FZ is pretty good.where its at, I'm very happy with it.

The R6 has new Armour body on the way, a Yoyodyne subframe, and a few new OEM odds and ends. I also have a custom Woodcraft shift rod coming so I can mount my QS, and Woodcraft sliders.

The FZ is all good, but will get moved around and probably dusted off and recovered with maybe another photo shoot and some measurements done for one of the other members. I already re-lubed the chain and plugged her in for the big sleep.

I should also either package up or sell a few spare parts (seats).

The KTM will be pulled apart and have a valve set and a mysterious oil leak fixed ( I pray it isn't what I think it is, or that will blow the budget). I will also insulate the undersides of the fuel tanks and put on a proper skid plate. The front tire is done and needs replacing. It also needs a battery tender lead hooked up to the battery. There are a few paint touch-ups that might get done as well.

The FZ 600 S. I should do some research on getting the rotor rewound so that old relick runs again. I have a few months to look into it.

Johnny, both of my tabs cracked so I stacked them with JB Weld to create a solid one-piece tab that encased even the metal clip for the bolt. It's super strong on both sides. Saved me some cash.

My FZ1:

  • Repairs to fairing from last off. Something is cracked and vibrating and will need JB Weld or replacement
  • Install heated grip elements
  • Paint and install Sport Scoops
  • Repair and reinstall the CD pods
  • Marine grade Power outlet
  • Rebuild GPR Steering Stabilizer (Gasket and fluid replacement)
  • Replace fork oil with 7.5 weight
  • Powder coat saddle bag supports

Michele's FZ1:

  • Change oil and filter over to synthetic
  • Install heated grip elements
  • Flush and fill cooling system
  • Fuel line mod
  • Marine grade Power outlet
  • Possible aftermarket exhaust and hanger
  • Fab and finish saddle bag supports

Clean and polish, lube and inspect all elements of the bikes to be sure they are ready for 2012.

Should be easy with a garage I can now heat. ;)

Well not much in the form of Winter projects for me:

FZ1
Install DJ Ignition Module (arriving today :))
Finish tidying up electrical wiring in the front (heated grips and turn signal stuff)

YZF1000R
Rebuild clutch master cylinder (have kit)

And I think that's about it. Of course I am always looking for some goodies to add to my rides so If I come across a good deal on an FZ1 rear shock or a seat cowl for the YZF then they'll get added to the list ;)

My winter project this year is a lttle bit more involved than most. I picked up a 1980 XS1100 SG from Mineapolis about a month ago. It was running and in decent condition but it didn't want to idle without full choke and it's low RPM running was pretty rough to say the least. I knew it was going to take some time and money to put things the way I wanted it but the more I got into it,the more I found I needed to do to make it look like I wanted it to and to run like it should. Many of you probably don't remember this Yamaha but in 1980 this was King of the roost and a shaftie at that. My goal was/is to make it as close to showroom as possible without totally breaking the bank. Most parts are still available, either OEM or aftermrket. When the parts hunt gets really tough, the bone yards have plenty of wrecks.

So far I've discovered that every shim in the valves was out of tollerance and only one could even be reused on a different valve. The cam chain was stretched beyond any further use so I had to get a new one. Both the mid and rear gear cases looked like they had never had the hypoid replaced but it has now. New brake pads were in order along with air filter and oil filter. Four carb rebuild kits just for GP and the Otopus had to be re-plumbed. I'll let you guys find out what the Octopus is. It appears Yamaha got rid of it shortly after the 80 model year. Due to the fact the the PO had put a Vetter Windjammer on it, which I immediately shite-canned,I had to come up with a new headlight/turn signal kit. I was able to find a decent retro from Speedmotoco.com and I think it looks pretty close to stock. Luckily the stock headlight mounts were still on the bike, tucked behind the faring.

Right now, all fluids have been replaced, along with filters, the cam cover is off, the cam and shims are out waiting for new shims (I found a place where I could get the shims for $5 vs the $22 Yamaha wants) and the XS1100 forum has a stash they will trade for free. The new cam chain is in place but waiting for the cams to go back in and the carbs have been torn down and cleaned, waiting for new gaskets and jets. I was hoping to have it ready to take to Lake Havasu this winter but at the rate it's taking to get parts, that may not happen and I may end up taking my Chinese ATV instead. I've attached a few pictures so you can check it out.

2011 Winter BIKE project

I have a new winter project as of today ! I spied a sweet, 1994 Honda Helix (just like the one I already have sitting in the garage) on CL this weekend. Two phone calls and one test-ride later, she is now mine. She needs a good cleaning, and probably a tune-up is in order. She starts and runs pretty good though, and she rides most excellent. She does need a new rear tire with 7.5K miles on the clock. Oh , , yeah, she is jet-black. The weather is crap now, but when I do get her home, I'll post up a pic or two. :woot:

FZ1:
Finish R1 Fork Conversion
  • Recieve and install extensions
  • Paint front fender
  • Stainless Steel Brake Lines<--Fren Tubo from PJs
Straighten Fairing Stay
Install new (to me) inner fairings
Seat Cover from HTMoto
New chain since my bad rear bearings f'd up the one I just put on. That one has a tight/loose spot somewhere and needs lube more often.

VX800:
Go get the damned thing!*
See what it needs a make a VX800 repair/service list

*My brothers mechanic is a saint. He's had that bike for two years now! He hasn't charged me for storage. My brother was supposed to pay for the repairs because they were his fault but his family comes first. I finally had enough money to pay him this winter.

Dustin the VX was another one of the great Japanese V twin standard sporties that just never caught on in the North American market. I knew two people with them, I havent seen either of them in some years but I can safetly say they both still own the bike.

That trackbike is a money pit, isn't it! Why so many changes all of a sudden?

Oh it's a money pit all right. :D

The current body work is in good shape but it has been repaired several times, or maybe just once, but a big crash. I just want a new, fresh set of skins. I'm also going from an SS tail to a SBK tail that uses a foam pad instead of the OEM saddle.

The Yoyodyne subframe is simply too cool, and my current OEM subframe has a crack in the tail of it. It's a cast piece and looks heavy. The Yoyo is an aluminum, welded frame. I'll need to fab up a battery bracket, etc. but nothing that $10.00 of band alu won't fix.

My current sliders are Vortex and have been down. I just want a new set, so Woodcraft of course.

Finally there is not a shift rod for my Woodcraft rearset that will take a DynoJet QS module so I asked WC to make one up. In turn they'll sell a shift rod for their 03-05 R6, and R6S rearsets as an option. The QS along with the slipper clutch is simply a dream.

Of the OEM parts I need a new puke bottle, I can't see the coolant level easily in the current one, and I need an genuine Yamaha clutch lever and bushing. The replacement from Cycle Gear isn't cutting the mustard.

And lastly I'm buying the tuning fork sticker for my top clamp.

I also have my eyes and ears open for a set of trick wheels. I missed a pair of Marchesini wheels for a steal the other day. Winter always brings out the bargains.

My FZ1, I simply love it! I raised my ConvertiBars one notch, about 7/8 of an inch. I've not tired them yet.
