Some advice and thoughts wanted

They said it had looked worn, maybe had a little more life to it, and the idle is a lot more stable after it was replaced. I didn't ask any more than that because the bike was running better.

I'm not doubting what they told you but the tensioner presses against a Teflon rail that presses against the chain and provides tension. It really odd that it was considerd worn.
