Slip on trimming?

Recently picked up a 05 FZ1.
I haven't rode it a ton but it seems to be fairly quiet even with a Hindle slip on.
A guy at work was saying you can cut the slip on down by a couple inches to get a little more sound out of it. Just want to see if anyone has done this? and if its worth doing?
From what I read getting headers is not worth it unless you have other power mods.

The problem with buying a shorty, is that a high quality piece is still somewhat scarce. It's fairly simple to do, pick a length, drill out rivets, "manipulate" to fit, use some very high temp sealing (>500 degree F), add new rivets, and re install. I bought a R1 Akrapovic titanium piece that had been heavily dented for 50 bucks shipped. Kept the shiny bit and voila very loud good looking can. The video below shows the process on a more difficult piece, but still the same. FYI use gloves and a mask, the packing material is nasty stuff. Also included a pic of mine.
