So how does one change the back blinkers to be on like the front's ? I haven't looked but my NH is a 3 wire up front and 2 in the back. The 3 wire light does it. So is this what we have to do on the Fz1 2nd Gen ? Does this make sense or not.

I had my Proton flushmounts in the back connected with the tail light but didn't see much use of it and I wanted a clean blinking pattern when turning on the signals. You would also need dual filament signals though.

dual filament will work, but it is not required, but if you want to go that route... find any aftermarket 3 wire bolt on, i have an LED short stalk set. you basiclally have +,-, and CLK wires on the signal do a little research or probe around with a multimeter to find the 'running light' on the brake light, (i think its brown? but dont hold me to that.) Wire the - to - the CLK (flash) to the existing turn signal lead. and finally in-line splice the 'running light' wire of the signal to the 'running light' wire of the brake light. Use the Led ones, you can find them anywhere, (motorcyclesuperstore.com has a bunch) dont bother with the lamps, they suck and for signals. Hope this helps! i did this on my ninja, i custom made a liscense plate braket filled with LEDs and wired it thusly.

I think by law a rear running light has to be red.

I hook up mine on the license plate light, was much easier.

I used similar lights without a relay and it operated at the same frequency. the built in resistiors those type of lights have balance the load... *usually*

That's what I tough too... I had to order it separately. They do look really nice on my F.E. I have the Proton flush mount on the front. Since I use the CNC bar end mirrors and could find proper cover to block the holes of the stock mirrors, I put a set of tint signal on top too. Look ok, much better than the cheap aluminum cover that I found.

I have done this to most of the bikes I have owned (not the FZ1 yet). If you want to keep the stock signals, you can get a set of fronts, and adapt to the rear. Usually, it only involves changing out the stem, then tying the third wire into the taillight wire.

In my case, instead of running lights, I use the second (dim element) elements as additional brake lights. I figure that I am usually going fast enough that no one is catching me from the rear and a single running light will suffice. But when I am on the brakes, I want to grab thier attention so that they will KNOW that I am slowing down. Back in the 80's, cars started having to have a 3rd center brake light. Since then, our human brains are ingrained that 3 lights mean "brake", and I think the amber lens will still be OK in most states as brake lights, plus, using amber as brake lights may grab a little more attention then red would.

Looking at the easiest way to do this. I see a lot of folks with the OEM blinkes, not in RED. From what I've heard, replace the rear with 3 wire fronts and your golden. Guess I'll hunt for some fronts, thanks All.

Cycleoneoff.com has all custom made mirror block of plates, if you dont see what you want, send him an email with an idea.

I use peel and stick 12V amber LED strips from SuperBright as my front running lights. They are stuck to the underside of the front fairing and are very bright. I will evenly set up my side cases with brake and turn indicators using these LED strips behind clear/opaque lenses. (red and amber)

Here are photos.
