had this prob after not using the bike for a few months and the garage not being attached to the house lets in a bit of damp...
so looked on net and found it could be thermowax unit pushrod which it was..had dirt and grit on push rod and stopped pushing as wax warmed up.
no pics but here's what i did..its a 08 gen2
seats off, fairing inners off, tank off, airbox off
airbox has a bolt in the middle that can be missed
disconnected neg terminal at battery cos tank was coming off
looked at pics on the net to see what thermowax unit looks like
it lies vertically behind loads of wiring with pushrod at bottom of unit..2 coolant hoses attach to it but no coolant comes out when taking them off
took unit off, butchered one of the screws holding it.. cut slot with dremel to unscrew it and wd40'd rod while pushing back n forth to duly release it.
put it all back together..started bike, crossed fingers and toes..result, no over revving..fixed!!
