Remove front sprocket cover

It's been a while since I last removed mine, but yes you will have to remove the shift linkage because as you can see it's right in front of it.
 
The linkage, yes, and the darned cables/hoses that are there are also a pain to maneuver around as well! Not a great design to "lock" in a cover that needs as much access as this one does!
