Where is the switch for reserve tank on the gen1 fz1?

There is no reserve on a GenI tank bud. Only a petcock which resides underneath the tank itself. The reserve is a section of the tank which is included in the total amount of gas you have. No switch to turn it to reserve.

I know, it's kind of weird but once the light goes on you have 1 gallon of reserve starting then which means that you have between 38 to 45 miles to get to a station.

Funny things with Yamahas Idea for low fuel notification, on my bike when you hit reserve and trip milage starts counting up from 0? I would think that they would have figured an average amount of miles left at reserve and it would start a count down. But hey, who am I?

I had to laugh a little also but only because it reminded me of when i ran out of gas. I would have bet i was gona make it to the station.

I too ran out this week on day 6 of owning the bike. First ride, got 100 miles with on 2.4 gal on fill up. So figured with a 5 gal tank, I could go at least 150 miles, which is two round-trips to work. Well no. I knew I was low, but figured I could switch to reserve if needed. Lucky for me it stalled in a left turn pocket. But on fill up, I could only put 4 gal in. I thought these things (2006) have a 5+ gal tank. Anyone?

According to the service manual I have, the full tank capacity is 4.76 US Gallons, with 0.90 gallon considered "reserve."
