It's a severe safety issue, akin to having your car frame break in two, if it happens while in motion it may be deadly. Yamaha has to be careful not to ignore a valid claim in this area which is why some people have got theirs fixed well out of warranty. It depends on the dealer and the owner. Since the '06 models are getting up there in age I doubt many new cracked frames are happening. Nonetheless I would not buy an '06 for that reason and for other known issues in that first year. There are plenty of good ones available with less age on them.
