Hi all, like a most everyone here love my FZ1. Only complaint is the seat. Guess just old age, fighting arthritis in several places starts to hurt after 70 miles or so. Get to 100-125, lower back hurts enough to have to get off for a while. Rode a new Ninja 1000SX last year at a demo ride. Great power and handling just like the FZ1 but with an incredibly comfortable seat. Don’t know if all Kawi demo rides are like the we went on. Guys leading were great. Took us on close to a 15 mile ride on some back roads ending it on a wide open 2 lane state highway for the 3 miles back to the dealer. They allowed us to play a little. It was a blast. One of the guys running the ride asked how I liked it. Told him I hated it. Seeming shocked, he asked why. Said it’s such a great ride it’s the first bike that’s ever made me consider trading the FZ1. Even looked into it. But just don’t want to. Now for the question. I recently discovered Russell Long custom made seats. They build one for the FZ1. Pictures of it look great. Sizable investment though. Wondering if anyone out there knows about them, or had one and what they think. Much rather invest in new seat.

Any new seat is better than stock. Had mine custom done with double the padding and add grippy material in the middle, made a night and day difference. No big seams is the trick as well.

So many variables to owning a bike. If you want to ride a lot...... comfort comes into play. I'm familiar with Russell Day Longs and I've never heard anyone say they weren't as advertised.

A lot of Gen 2 members switched to Dirt Road.

There is not a ton of surface area on a Gen 2 to build a couch on. The one on the white Gen 2 on Russel's site looks comfy, kinda like a catcher's mitt for your butt.

Another option is Top Sellerie from France. Theirs works out to a little less after shipping. Gen 2 Dirt Road seats were liked by many if you ever see one used.

I have a stock, a Sargent and a Dirt Road for my Gen 1 The Dirt Road is the most comfortable for a long ride (200+) but not the most comfortable if that make's sense. The Sargent's seat is the most comfortable shape.

Thanks so much for the info. Will definitely be looking into it. Nice little project to work on over the winter. Laughed at the “catcher’s mitt” description. It does look like it. I’m using the air hawk cushion I had on the passenger seat on my soft tail. That helps. Now that weather is changing work is slowing down. One more errand to run then I’m going out on it for few hours.

Get a Sorbathane pad. Above is about 1/4 inch. Sorbathane is used by industry to reduce vibration. I have used the pad on four owned motorcycles. I could only ride one hr. on stock seat, before getting tired/sore. The pad allowed many hrs. of riding.

Bought my gen2 last year with stock and Sargent seats. I can't take the stock for 20 minutes, for some reason it completely fails my arse. The Sargent one is very nice, can ride all day without issue. I also ordered a custom set from Top Sellerie. That one I can also ride all day without issue and it's beautiful. I've done 200 mile days on both. The Sargent sits me in lower, with the nicely dished platform. The TS is plusher, rounder and taller, so the two are very different on the butt. Both are firm. The Sargent is wider, which I can feel on my thighs when at a stop. I'm happy to have both, and have no use for the stock seat!
