went to go for a ride and my battery is dead, how sucky is that

How old is the bike? Do you run a lot of accessories? Or, did you leave the key in and on? 
Yeah, that sucks!
Bump start it in 3rd gear and then ride around in the 5k RPM range for an hour. That should wake it up!

Quite, buy a cheap battery tender and keep her hooked up when are you aren't riding!

Yeah, that does suck. I have succumbed to the habit of plugging my bike into an automatic charger everytime I come home and park the bike. Having the battery conditioned to a full charge definitely makes it last longer. I had just swapped out the original battery about 3 months ago. The bike is an 01' so I got my usage out of it for sure.
