nitron shock

I have been looking at upgrading the rear suspension on my bike. There has been some talk about converting the fz to accept an R1 rear shock, maybe 07/08 spec. My 06 R1 was okay handling wise but nothing special and feedback from someone who has tested the 08 on track in Spain recently indicates the rear shock is barely average.
So, I have contacted Nitron who offer a choice of bespoke FZ1 units. The one I am interested in has ride height adjustment (one of the issues of an R1 conversion apears to be fixed geometry) allowing for proper bike set up.
Nitron have got back to me and may be prepared to offer some discount to the FZ forum(s) members for 'group' purchases.
The Nitron shocks are set up for rider weight etc. and therefore will work much better than a shock 'made to fit', from another bike, with a unit for 'an average rider'.
Is anyone interested in this in the near future?

Is this one better than Ohelins shock ?

Is this one better than Ohelins shock ?

Honestly, I dont know.
I dare say Nitron might claim it is as good as. It is better value though and maybe if you pay £500 for a Nitron it may be better than a £500 Ohlins unit, if Ohlins do one for that kind of money. After all Ohlins is 'the name' and you pay for that name.
If you have money to burn then go buy Ohlins, it is world class. The plus side of the Nitron unit for the FZ is a bespoke shock for under £500, maybe closer to £400 for a quality unit. I think Ohlins will be more like £1000 and TBH if it is better then it will not show a difference between units without spending fortunes on the front end as well...

OK, As I"m not an expert on this, can you please give a link to the company site.
I"ll do a small reaserch with the local riders here.

Jim...nice to see someone else scooting around the net as much as me........anyway, with regards the 07/08 R1 shock conversion don't forget that the standard FZ1 shock is non-rebuildable so is basically scrap. But the 07/08 R1 shock IS and can therefore be revalved if required to turn it into something of quality. At £40 for a new ebay-sourced R1 shock (which is way better than the FZ1 shock whichever way you slice it), £50 for the adapter and about £150 for a full revalve you're still £200 or more shy of even the budget Nitron - btw, make sure you add VAT to their prices, they have a habit of not quoting this and it wallops the price up, I know from experience. Personally, I'm going with the shock conversion (without a revalve for now) as Satan666 has stated that just bolting the standard R1 shock in has made a big improvement on damping and control over standard, and by the power of grey scull he really knows his shit.....:)

I will continue to look at the options, nothing lost as the bike will not go far for a while and certainly will not get used in anger before march/april!
Got a 2mm chicken strip left on the back tyre and I,m not run yet so the bike has real potential for upsetting the race reps..

...and I'll give you an honest ride report when it's done (but you'll be stuck for getting hold of an adapter by then). If it doesn't do the business I'll be going replacement quality shock but I'd be surprised if it doesn't. As I've said elsewhere my previous bike had Ohlins front and rear and that was amazing stuff......good luck with the group buy but I doubt you'll get sufficient interest going on what's been attempted on FZ1OA before.

I went with the Penske 8983 on the rear of my Gen I ... Night and day difference from the stock pogo-stick ... I'd go as far as to say that ANYTHING would be a big improvement over stock as long as it is properly spring for your weight.

i spoke to michael ktech derby shire on april 8th 2014 ( last week) he was happy to rebuild my "non rebuildable " shock with sprecific spring for track and fast road and new damping oil and seal better piston for my weight etc

for the grand total of £150 with 10 % discount if i had the track fork rebuild which was 400, so 550 minus 10% 495 ish, forks and shock must be prior removed and delivered in person to avoid postage,

he was a thoroughly help ful chap and im getting forks done soon and possible the "track" nitron rear shock

it would seem k tech can rebuild and improve the rear cheaply and specific to customer requirements

penske

i looked at there site

what shock do you run 1 2 or 3 way

im looking for faqst road and fast group track day riding shock, the stock on is just about acceptable on the road and awful on track, same as the forks

I run the Penske 8983 with remote reservoir which is the two way. As much as I'd love the 3-way, I'm not a track specialist. The 8983 is awesome!
