New member welcome thread...

Hi Marc, welcome to this forum from another Belgian guy. Nice pictures you took on your FZ1 (pictures taken in DOEL?)

Hey Arnold. Yes, the picture's are made in Doel. I see you are from Antwerp. That's not so far from where i live. I'm from Hamme, near Sint Niklaas.

hello just joined up ,, i just bought a 02 fz1 today and ready to get some miles logged in , is a o2 a gen 1 or gen 2 ?
thanks Bob

?

Welcome, OldMan (Bob). Gen I are from 2001 to 2005 and Gen II are 2006 to present (2011). Here's a quick list of the differences in Gen 1 and Gen 2 FZ1's. I'm sure others here are more qualified to differentiate the 2. Both are excellent bikes! There may even be some threads about this. Try the search feature of the site.

FZ1a.jpg

Gen I have:
  • carburetors
  • a tubular steel frame
  • all analog gauges
  • and I've heard a bit more mid range grunt
  • a larger fuel tank and a bit better gas mileage, thus better range
  • a one piece seat for driver and passenger
  • traditional fork

The Gen II have:
  • fuel injection
  • aluminum box frame
  • digital speedo with analog tach
  • a bit more upper end hp
  • smaller tank and a bit worse fuel economy
  • separate driver and passenger seats
  • inverted fork

Here's the wiki page on the FZ1, which may need a bit of tweaking, but seems mostly right. (Yamaha isn't still making the FZ6 as far as I know)

Howdy,

My name is Baron and I live in Temecula, Ca. I picked up a 2001 FZ1 from Craigslist that's pretty clean for it's age/26K miles. There are some nice upgrades on it: Dale Walker Holeshot pipe, K&N pod filters, Zero Gravity Double Bubble screen, LED tail lights and fender eliminator. I put on some heated grips for early morning commute, Chinese levers, 15 tooth sprocket with new chain and an output for my electric vest.

So far I'm really enjoying it mainly commuting to work. It's the first litre bike I've ever owned (I had an 06 FZ6 for awhile but I had to sell it). Controling the "gas hand" is the hardest thing so far.

I only have a couple things I'd like to sort out: It's running rich (carbon buld-up on the tail pipe end). I'm not sure if this requires turning in the fuel/air screw of each carb. That's what I've always done with my thumpers. I also need to get into the carbs to see what jets were installed when the PO put the pipe/K&N's on. I'm only getting 38-41MPG and from what I've read I should be able to get a little better than that. I guess I can put a 16 tooth back on but I would like to address the jetting first.

So not knowing what the maintenance schedule of it's past makes me wonder if I should adjust the valves as well. I've only done single cylinder bikes before. How hard is it to adjust 4? Shim over bucket I assume. And when do you know when to sync the carbs?

Sorry for so many questions for my first post.

Hello World

Hi,

My name is Josh and I'm from Minnesota. I've been riding for 2 years, my first bike was a Triumph Bonneville, but in short order I wanted something faster and more fun. Got a great deal on a brand new 08 FZ1 last January and haven't looked back.

I'd guess half of the miles I put on each year are from commuting to work, the other half are from weekend day rides down the river and the occasional over-nighter.

I generally ride solo or with a good friend of mine who rides an older BMW 800GS.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful posts over the years, I hope to return the favor.

Cheers!

Welcome aboard. What area of MN? We were just out in Lindstrom earlier this year just NE of Minneapolis/St. Paul. It is beautiful up there especially heading back towards Wisconsin.

Hey Baron,

Sweet bike, I liked that color scheme the best of the G1's. As for being a little rich, hey it's better than a little lean. I think your MPG is decent.... my Gen2 with mods and Dobeck TFI is definitly less than what your seeing.

New to Forum

Greetings all. I recently found this forum thanks to a member of the other FZ! forum posting a link. I have a 2004 skunk, which I bought around 3 years ago. Previously I had a 76 750four, and a couple of late 70's gold wings. I hadn't ridden for a while when i started looking for a new bike, but had ridden a friends FZ1 and loved it, so I was stoked when I found this one.

I live in the DFW area, and ride with a sport club occasionally and on my own. I work for a captive auto finance company, and drive a very nice company leased car, so I don't commute with the FZ1 much at all. Besides, I get horrible helmet head! Also, my route to and from work is into the sun, and one of my biggest fears on two wheels is getting hit from behind by someone who could see me in the sun. So, I leave my riding for the weekends and twisty country roads.

Anyway, I am looking for a new front wheel, I hit a big rock in the road with mine and put a nice little dent in the wheel. It still holds air, and doesn't ride too bad, but when I get up over 100 she starts to shimmy a little. I expect to have $$ in a few weeks for this and am looking for a used one from the forums. Let me know if you have anything, and I will put up a post in the wanted forum when I have cash in hand.

Anyway, I tend to lurk around and read the forums, but don't have a lot to say so keep writing good stuff and I'll keep reading!

Welcome to the forum Pepe LePew (love the name...lol). Post up some pics of your bike when you get a chance.

As for the front wheel, your best option might be eBay. I always see them for sale on there. Just make sure the seller guarantees that it's straight. No point in buying one that's in worse shape than yours ;)

Hi, I'm new to this site, how do I introduce myself and man I need a front fender for my new FZ1. Just sold my Fazer 600 after 8 glorious years. Also I would like to start a new thread on buying a front fender/Guard

Cheers

:welcome: Well that is a good start. Post up a picture as your avatar is interesting. To start a thread like that go to the "Forum" tab and look for the section on "Bike parts wanted" http://www.998cc.org/forum/bikes-parts-wanted/ then hit "start new thread", easy. Always helps if the thread is in the appropriate section.

Glad to have you here. Sorry to hear about the stolen bike. That always gets me mad. I'm glad you have the 2010 FZ1 now. What color? I'd love to see some pics.

Stay safe!

Hi,I'm Alessio 35 y o and on two weels since 1990 whit a red rose 50cc aprilia. I'm italian but now I live in Brazil so against my volonty,I'm going to sale my honey..but here, where you can import only new veicles(for this bike 20000€ tax!!!!)I'll buy the irregoular trokes engine version..I hope! Came on Yamaha!!!!
I'm professional personal trainer and teacher and relator for italian fitness federation(I prepared few bike's riders in 2009 2010 in the italian velocity championship. I was very closed to sports bikes so I had the possibilty to know many things),but here I have an immobilar's society with my wife.
sport bikes are my love but on the street a compromise is better so after a fz6 when 100 hp was not enough I buyed a mv brutale 910s but was not as I had dream..so came back to my favorite factory and: Fz1!! A lot of work to have the bike as I desidered and the perfect bike is in my garage!!!
I had a corsaro 1200(moto morini)too, very very funny bike but with a lot of problems. More, in line 4 cilinders is my favorite engine so the choice is automatic!
Bye guys! Friends call me Ridges ;-)
