Howdy folks! Been skulking in the shadows for awhile and thought it was time for an introduction and some thank yous. First off, I'm extremely new to cycles. I'm in my mid 40's and have ridden 4-wheelers for years. Decided to lose a wheel last year and get my feet wet so I bought a brand new 2009 Can Am Spyder. Thus my screen name! LOL! I know I said '09 but I had the dealer find a new yellow and black one for me. I love that color scheme! Seeing as how it rides very similar to a 4-wheeler it was a great way to become accustomed to Texas highway and big city traffic and build my experience and my confidence. Back in April I got to ride my nephews '02 FZ1 and got bit by the bug!!! It was time to loose my training wheel and step up to a real bike! I heard about this sight and started doin some research about the models. I bought my FZ1 June 12th with 28,500 miles for a steal and haven't looked back! I love riding her! Now for the problem. At 29,500 miles she left me stranded on the side of the highway goin home 1 night. Lights went out, engine sputtered several times then died. After I got her trailered home I searched this sight, found an authentic service manual online as a pdf, found a guy local and bought the printed version for next to nothing (he sold his bike), did some diagnostics that I learned on here and found that my stator wasn't charging. Pulled the cover and sure enough, the magnets had let go from the rotor. After saving over $200 by ordering parts from partshark.com (as recommended by several on this site) she's back on the road and we are doin great! Now the thank yous. Thank all of you for the wealth of technical knowledge that you share with all those that are members, or in my case, just skulking in the shadows! Thank you for all the photos and videos to help show us newbies what to look for, and for giving us ideas on how to customize our bikes! My FZ WILL BE black and yellow before I am finished!!!:sinister: And thank you for sharing your experiences with everyone! We don't have to go through all the :doh2: or the:banghead: or the:cry: if someone else has already been there, done that!!!! Thank yall for everything.

Welcome Spyder! Glad you decided you come out from the shadows! You'll find a bunch of members here from the great State of Texas. Pyro (Jeff) does a tour each year so maybe you can get in on that. When you have time, get some shots of the new ride up so we can see. I'm glad you got her up and running again!

Welcome! The Spyder is pretty cool. There's a guy where I used to work in Austin who rode his every day, rain or shine.

My '06 FZ1 stator had the same problem as yours, all of the magnets decided they no longer wanted to be on the flywheel any longer.

Regardless, I think you'll find the FZ1 to be pretty much bullet proof, and a very rewarding bike to ride.
