New guy question

LOL!

My girly is about 5'6" 125lbs. Boney butt might not help :P

But(pun intended), the road trip that she will be coming along for will be with my parents who ride cruisers. So we will be able to swap bikes and get a wide range of seating options throughout the trip. So we have that going for us at least!

Welcome POE, get a full Yoshi system (they are specifically designed for the FZ1 with huge midrange gains) do the air box mod, change to a 16T front sprocket, then get Ivan's flash and the bike will be a much different beast.

Not only will it have much more midrange and top end power but the rideability will be out of this world with smooth accurate fuelling and power.

The only downside will be reduced mileage especially as you will be loving opening up the throttle.

Good luck with your bike.

Do people usually do a 16T sprocket while keeping the stock 190/50 tire size? Or are you suggesting the 16T sprocket along with the 190/55 tire that I mentioned I would like to get?

Do the 16T sprocket anyway.

It's especially important with the 190/55 rear tyre as it slows acceleration.

They do all sorts, 16 front/45 rear is also a favourite. Might need a Speedo healer though, your Speedo will be well out.

What is stock ratio? 17/44? 17/46?

Right now I'd probably stick with -1 in front and a 190/55 rear. Unless that lowers power a fraction. I'm guessing it does because in a thread about 190/55 tires I read that it might make the speedo even closer to reading accurately. That would mean it's increasing speed over RPM which equals less power to the road. Hmmm, maybe +1 or +2 on the rear and keep the front stock. Then put a 190/55 on? I don't like this math game...

Agreed it won't reduce power. But it will reduce power to the road (=acceleration) like I mentioned ;)
