New bike for Christmas?

Your friend is not to bright. As soon as he buys it it becomes a used bike so the value drops. It wont qualify for new bike financing so he might not make as much as he would like.

Crappy deal.

If you were looking for another bike, I doubt this hiccup will change your mind. Be patient, there are always deals if you look long and hard enough

I went to his house everyday and made him breakfast, swept his floor, did his dishes and hung out for a few hours before I went to work in the evenings. I'm a little ticked off!

When we were kids, my sister had a grievance with me. She made some pineapple pudding to patch things up. The pineapple turned out to be onion. It may be time for you to make nice with your buddy. You know, make a special breakfast...

This guy is no friend. He is an acquaintance. One that you may want to consider staying away from. He has no loyalty, sense of fair play, scruples, ... Dealing with him will likely be a loosing proposition .. anytime.

I don't blame you for having the bike hunt chilled by this incident.
You still have a great bike, though! And you have not lost a penny in this whole affair. So, if you want to get back into it, you're still in the same place, financially.

That friend sounds like a real piece of work.

I would think about the S1000R really hard. All the reviews and from what I've gathered from the dealership it's going to be hard to beat for an amazing naked bike.

It really depends on what you want to go do.

1. Your Fz1 is a more than capable touring bike and a lot of fun as you know. In my mind other than the new factor of a Ninja1000, I don't see the point in that bike, unless you love the look of the bike and green which I don't, I love black. After my demo ride on the Ninja 1000 I hopped on my Fz1 and road away laughing because I had just as good a ride for half the price.

2. If you want to get off the main road and onto some dirt road, then maybe the bigger Vstrom or actually I road the Super Tenere and that bike as a lot of fun on the street as well. Not much of a step off from the Fz1.

3. If you want a track-able bike, then find something that you can set up for yourself. I like the R6/R1 and found the ergos on the Kawi's to not be friendly for my body. I wouldn't want to really push the S1000R at the track if I got it.
