Motorcycle Toll Tag Transponder Holders

I hate them and find them really unnecessary.
I was living in Florida and later in Texas and I had to get my bike through the tolls. LOL I bought the holder from Twisted Throttle and thought I got a pretty good deal until I came back to Tx and NONE of the guys I was riding with knew WTF I was promoting on my handlebars. HAHAHAHA

Seriously - PLEASE DON"T waste your money. Now I put my toll tag in my pocket and we are good to go.

Enjoy your rides this time of year. We are extremely lucky to take our machines out on the lonely roads :eek5:

I found it interesting that the reader did not always read on some of his trips when he had it in his pocket. I was told by the person that gave me mine that it would work in the glove box of a car so to be sure and put it in the foil bag if I did not need it otherwise I would get charged.

Lucky for me the main toll section I use in San Diego is an "Express Lane" and is free for car poolers and motorcycles. I only use the transponder when I drive solo on it. So it stays in my car.

Tolling roadways is fairly new here in BC. We've just completed two very large bridge & highway projects to improve travel around the Vancouver metro area. There are two bridges which are tolled now, one bridge was all-new and replaced a very old ferry river crossing. The other bridge simply replaced the old one and is 10 lanes instead of 5.

There is a stick-on microchip that goes on the vehicles. Motorcycles get a clear sticker with a chip in the centre, that goes on the headlight.

There was an older system for the last couple years that used a large transponder. Motorcycles simply didn't get the discounted rate as they couldn't have a transponder but were offered a slightly smaller discount for registering their license plate (video registration).

When I visited the east coast of the USA for the first time ever in my life, I was shocked with how many tolls there are. I must have paid 100 tolls on my way through!

Wonderful, ain't it! Here in NY we have THE CRAPPIEST roads in America, yet we have the highest tolls. Eisenhower must be turning over in his grave!!!! Tolls were put in place to fund the payment for construction of the bridges and tunnels, followed by the upkeep of said roads. The bridges and tunnels have been paid for ten times over, and try and find ONE road here without a pothole in it. It's impossible!!! The best part is that while here in NY I get a huge discount for taking my bike through a toll, in Jersey I pay the same as a car! Go figure! They say that 2 axles are 2 axles, period! And shame on you if your paying cash! The one or two toll takers they have left here in NY don't even know that bikes go through for less money! On at least 4 different occasions I've had to argue with the guy, or gal, until they brought a supervisor over to explain it to them. Good Grief!!! Oh I'm sorry. This thread was about tag holders! Oops!

I knew there were a lot of toll roads back east and in the NY area, but to have to pay the same as cars is no bueno.

Beautiful thing with Illinois is you can just put your license plate into the online database and it auto deducts off the transponder that you have on your account. No need to carry the transponder with you.

That seems like a much more effective way to do that, at least for a full toll road.

In an area like San Diego where the "express lane" is free for carpools and motorcycles that would not work.

Here in Turkey we have a rather large chip-ish thing which is linked to a credit card.

I have a transparent rainproof velcro pocket which i can attach to my tankbag or my roadcrafter suit.

It does work from inner pockets too but i usualy forget it at home when i change jackets.

They have a new barcode sticker thing these days but becouse its designed for cars it simply would peal off after the first rain or wash. Also a toll sticker on a bike screen is tempting for someone who doesn't have one...

It works from under your seat?? You guys must have better technologically advanced tags out there!!!

Yeah - works fine! Have you tried it? Maybe if your seatpan was metal it might not, but if its plastic it should work.

I was thinking of attaching it to the under side if the fairing also.

Oh btw - yeah Texas doesn't mess around with tolls... Everything is bigger in Texas - including fines!! LOL

Yes - I agree with Jeff. It works from under the seat.
I have used it in both Texas and Florida Sun Pass and had NO problems with them in my pocket or under the seat and even packed in my bag.
