Motorcycle prices.... wtf?

You know what makes even LESS sense to me? I'm also very much into many forms of cycling and a high end downhill bicycle can cost over 8 grand!

High end road bicycle... TEN grand!! THAT is ridiculous!

I could be wrong, but I think a lot more engineering dollars went into that YZ450F than the FZ-09.

Also sometimes manufacturers will under price a new model to gain market share. Maybe Yamaha can sell as many YZ450F's at that price as it can already produce :dontknow:

That may be the case Tony, at least this year. I'm sure that the MT version was a lot pricier when it was initially released and them renaming it to an FZ for the U.S. market.... well, it's already tooled and manufactured.

But still, the YZ450F has a LOT less materials and is far easier to produce as most parts are much simpler in design. Next to nothing for a charging system because it lacks all the electronics, lights, etc... mostly plastic parts on a simple frame and swingarm. Not much new in the forks/brakes departments... I don't know.... baffling!

But imagine that as a motard? w00t!!!

Only 10K, that's old news. I'm starting to see more in the 12K range, I paid less for my NIB FZ1. Of course it weighs a tad more than 14# and doesn't have electronic shifting or aerodynamic carbon fiber wheels and only 6 gears instead of 22.

Yup.. this one's 12k even: no suspension, no electronics, 14 pounds of material .. makes all motorcycle prices seem really reasonable

You can't post stuff like this dealers will see it and raise our prises even more! When I got into dirt riding in the 90s they were $3500 for most models brand new. Now its crazy paying more than that for a 4 year old model.

Companies will charge as much as people will pay. If more people would shop around and stop buying the newest and the best the demand for new items would go down and the prices would drop. bought my fz new from a dealer in 2010, 08 fz1 and they dropped the price 3000 from the sticker price and everyone involved still made money. When gas was $5 a gallon, people would complain but the majority didn't change their driving habits, they would just swipe the credit card and keep going. Until their credit cards were all maxed out they didn't care.

yep im with you guys about buying new bikes NEVER again. I got my 09 fz with 2200 miles for $7000 dealers kept playing games advertising leftover bikes at cheap prices and then when I got there aww we just sold that one.got my 07 Honda new for 11,500 in 08 now the same exact bike(diff.color) is over 18,000.But then again it is ridin season deals will be had when winter time rolls around and the young and dumb are not in shops payin out the ass

How I wish. Been down more than I care to remember.

I just realized that I could have had a nicely equipped Colnago for what I paid for my FZ.:jaw drop:

Now I know I'm not replacing my road bike soon. Unless it get stolen or totaled.

Yeah.. I'm sure that comment was sarcasm.. I've had several broken bones.. all from bicycle crashed. I've hit 47.6mph on my road bike.. the only gear being helmet and gloves. Would've lost a LOT of skin if I had gone down at that speed.

Sorry for the thread-jack.

No problem.

Fastest on a bicycle for me was 54mph. Fastest on skis was 68.5.

Bottom line is that the cost of having fun keeps going up.

There are new vehicle people and used vehicle people ..... no right or wrong. People who like to buy new and hold on to it for awhile are not dumb, it is their decision based on their circumstances. Some people prefer a virgin ride rather than a machine that may or may not have been abused. There are good deals available on new vehicles depending on the dealer, his stock, the general market, and your negotiating skills, you just have to keep your eyes and ears open. I don't think m/c prices are out of line considering similar prices for wave runners, boats, and other guy toys.

Don't forget that some of them there bicycles have hydraulic brakes and cross drilled and slotted rotors. Wouldn't want any brake fade when tearing up a corner at 13mph.
