LVPD Rear Ends Motorcyclist

I found the story in the guys own words

Cop rear-ends me and I’m at fault!?!

It's good to see some people have a sense of humor over the whole thing as this commenter posted.

"definitely your fault...as a semi professional distance judge, avid motorcyclist (professionally avid), amateur car driver, and general go-to expert, i can say 100% that you are in the wrong here, there was no way he could stop his 5000lb steel cage on wheels in the 6 inches YOU were giving HIM in front of him. physics just wont allow. what you really deserved was some cuffs and a visit to the precinct for closing the space between you so brashly.shame on you.that white line is for BOUNDARIES not for a guide

Jesus.....its like you people think you can do whatever you want when you ride a motorcycle, did you know that more people die every year in car crashes than in motorcycle crashes? did you know that police cruiser crash bars can be SEVERELY scuffed by contact with motorcycle rear tires?

Sh%t load of tickets? Shoulda gotten mazered (maced, tazed, lasered for the unimaginative)

Should teach you dumb motorcyclists how to ride...

(btw, saw the video, and in all seriousness....what the hell, the merging vehicle was LIGHT YEARS away when you gave him more room, good defensive riding."

It received the same reaction on the R1 site and both FZ1 sites.

I think the video is going viral. It is on every motorcycle forum that I visit regularly. I will also post it on my FB to make sure that a few more people see it. I'm not so much gunning for the cop's job........his lawyer will do that.........

Blind Spot did some research and found this:

It will be interesting to see what happens. The Texas Policeman who took the motorcycle's video camera without reason received 30 days (or there about) suspension.

Different circumstances but Texas cop received A LOT of attention. I don't think the LV cop will get fired. A lot depends on his past performance/ future potential but most of the time police get suspended. I'm just mentioning this last story as a comparison for policemen who get in trouble publically....

Well, that video was very troubling! It's really a shame that these few bad seeds slip through and get badges. I wish I could see the follow up to this video.

I agree.
Most policemen do a great job and I am glad that we have them but unfortunately a few of them go out of bounds. In this day and age - you can just about bet that someone - somewhere is video taping most interactions. That is both good and bad. :teeter:

Here is the follow up to the Dallas Sheriff who took the video camera:

There is not a follow up yet for the Las Vegas cop. That only happened a few days ago.

I'm at least happy they gave him a suspension. I'm also glad that the guy is taking it to trial. Sometimes you have to take a stand, no matter how small, and initiate some kind of change in behavior of some of these "bad" seeds.

That is good to know. I had no heard how some of those cases turned out. I guess you just make sure they know they are being recorded and there will be no issues, which to me makes no sense, the whole reason behind recording someone is to catch them in the act of doing something fishy, whether they are law enforcement or not.....

I'm thinking the cop was following too close. And isn't it ALWAYS the guy in back who gets the ticket for the wreck? Who knows if the biker could have been stopping for a crossing animal or something.... it's the responsibility of the person behind to stay back and control speed, not the guy in front.

:nana:

Mostly it's just a mistaken emotional reaction - but choosing to threaten the rider with unfounded tickets was a bad choice.

"~UPDATE~ Thursday, April 4, 2013
Officer Eugen Holm retired yesterday in lieu of being fired. This was confirmed by an internal affairs investigator this morning.
Officer Holm was facing Internal Affairs charges for: (1) Not reporting an accident (Metro Policy Manual 5/103.29), (2) Wrongful interaction with the public (for being discourteous and rude, Metro Policy Manual 4/102.12), and (3) Conduct Unbecoming an Officer (intimidation, Civil Service Rule 510-2). All charges were "SUSTAINED""
