Hey guys,
So I have a 2005 FZ1. I have this weird issue going on where I turn my bike on, let it warm up for a bit. Then I'll start riding it and about 2 minuets into the ride my low oil light comes on and stays on for about 3-5 minuets then it turns off. This was going on right before I took my bike in for the 8k tune-up earlier this summer so I wasn't worried about it. The guys tuned up my bike, said it was low on oil, filled it up and looked over the bike and all was well. Well I'm only at about 9,200 miles now and its starting to do the same thing again. It's happening more when I'm high reving the bike. Roughly around 6-9k RPM. I'll back the RPM down to about 4k and it will go away after a minute or so. I don't have any oil marks in my garage so I'm not leaking oil. Any suggestions on whats going on here? Could I be burning oil and will have to just keep topping it off? Is this maybe a sensor? Not sure where to start. Has anyone else had this problem before? Thanks for any help!

The bike only has an "oil level" sensor and nothing more. Just add about an ounce or two and it should go away. Plenty of times after an oil change I had to add a few more drops than I thought it needed. Even though you have the lines on the sight glass, you still may need to add some until it's close to the top of the glass.

You might be burning a bit of oil, not uncommon, so just top it off to the full mark and be done with it. As long as the oil is to the full mark just ignore the light.

THIS.

When I first got my 2002 the previous owner had been using yamalube, I found it was burning up that oil, swapped to Mobil1 4MT and the first oil change burned off some as well, but the second full synthetic fillup has not burned up at all. Consider synthetic if you want to decrease the burning.

I get this when oil level is mid in the sight glass, top it up to top of glass and it stops. Mine also comes on after riding for a couple of minutes, usually on cooler days when oil is still cool. I am thinking the sensor is giving a false reading as seeing that the oil is thicker it is taking long to work its way though valve train and back to pan. 40,000 miles on mine been doing this since new so not worried. Also in 3000 km I find use about 1/2 litre of oil, this is again dependent on how I ride. Lots of hard riding with high revs might use an ounce more, opposite with low rev's.
