Just picked up a 08 fz1

Welcome to the liter club Toombz! Congrats on the upgrade. Open that wallet because here comes the big DRAIN... :D Let the modding begin!

Start your build thread with some original pics now and we'll watch that thread build over time with the changes. ;)

I had my purchase narrowed down among an FZ1, FZ6R or Ninja 1000. Obviously I chose the FZ1, but the 6R was highly considered. In hindsight I know I made the right decision, but in your opinion is there a large disparity between the FZ1 and 6R and what are the differences besides cc's?

Welcome. I see from the FZ6R forum that you moved from a Ninja 250r to the FZ6R and now to the FZ1. Congrats on the new bike. I imagine the FZ1 is as much a jump from the FZ6r as it was from the Ninja 250r to the FZ6r.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the differences in all 3 bikes. My wife is on a '09 Ninja 250r and is in no big hurry to move up (mostly because it's hard to find a lowered bike she's comfortable trying out). I'd love to see her move up to an FZ6R, but I think she favors the Ninja 650.

Let's see some pictures of all the bikes if you still have some of the Ninja 250 and FZ6R. If not, at least let us see the FZ1! Enjoy it and be careful! The FZ1 is somewhat tame under 5k, but 8k and up is :eek5:

About double the horsepower and a much better chassis; the difference would be astronomical. The FZ1 is a better bike in every way. The FZ6R is a nice bike but you can tell it was built to a price-point. Unlike its older brother the FZ6(S), the FZ6R is tuned to provide friendly power and a healthy mid-range, there's no high-RPM rush. The components are more basic and the whole bike has a friendlier feel to it.

LOVE the 2008

Just picked up a 08 fz1 from the dealer. Traded in my fz6r for it. Love the bike so far. Do plan on going naked with it. Anyways just saying hi!

The bike ROCKS. I bought mine in February. Only on it 1-2 times a week(rain), but I love pulling off the cover in the garage and just staring at the beast, "Your really mine?." OMG!

: owned:

Have fun and BE SAFE.

Yep I came from the Ninja 250 first then on to the FZ6R and now the FZ1. Actually the FZ1 was not planned at all. I was just in the shop and noticed the used FZ1.....calling my name. Couldn't pass it up.

The 250 I enjoyed but my main problem it was most of my riding is a 40mile commute on a 2 lane highway. Anytime a semi came by it would blow me silly. At my height and weight (6ft 210lbs) it wasn't too bad to ride though.

To the FZ6R I got a bit heavier bike which I was looking for. Very smooth power. To me thats the best way to describe that bike. Smooth. More comfortable to ride than the Ninja. I really had no plans to upgrade anytime soon. I had swapped bikes on the ride home a couple times with my buddy who has a zx10. That bike isn't for me I can tell ya that. All it felt like that bike wanted to do was hit warp speed. It always felt like I was in that state like in star wars where they are about to jump into light speed..just a constant feeling like that.

Now on to the FZ1 which I have not had for a full day yet...but what suprised me was how comfortable it is to ride in town. I did not expect that. Can feel the low end alot more than on the FZ6R. The FZ1 also feels smooth to me. Not quite as smooth as the 6r but not far from. I am glad to have made the purchace.

Yea at the moment scratching my head trying to decide where to begin.

Cool bike.... I have one in same color - also bought from dealer, but last June. When I bought mine, thought I was going to have plenty of time to ride, but almost as soon as I got the 1st ride in, I went back to work and still haven't managed to finish break in yet.....

Amazing the differences I've seen in these 08s - wheels on mine are green color, mine has black forks and the radiator shrouds are black on mine.

Sounds like you may have the '09 black/granite gray. Is it gray front to back or does it have a black fairing and airbox cover? I thought the '08's had gold forks with gray or red paint. (not trying to be a jerk, really) I've just always thought of the black forks and greenish gold wheels as a 2009 thing (either blue or black/gray paint).

I see it came with a fender eliminator, double bubble windshield and frame sliders. :+1:

I'd highly recommend adjustable clutch and front brake levers (not too expensive and easy to swap out) and either a Corbin or Sergent front seat. All of these should make it more comfortable and enjoyable for not too much money or work.

Then just choose looks, performance or suspension and start saving. New tires can help too. I like the Michelin Pilot Road 3's (not the stickiest, but long life and good enough for me and my skillz)

Enjoy it. It's actually a little weak in the low-mid range for a liter bike, but that top end may give you a taste of that Star Wars moment again :D
