I hate it when this happens

That's an odd one. We don't know his speed but you get the feeling it wasn't that fast, clean road, mild turn, yet he seems to panic in the curve and stands it up. Looks like he had no confidence that he could "look (to the exit), lean (the bike), and believe you will make it". He may have been compromised because he's on a cruiser and those dumb things don't lean very much until everything starts dragging. Too bad about the 'Vette, you are out for a nice fall drive and your afternoon, and car, is ruined because some guy couldn't handle his bike.

I think most people on sporty or standard bikes have all gone into a turn a bit too hot but leaning it over and easily getting through the turn if you have confidence in what your machine can do. I find cruiser riders tend to think of their machines as cars on two wheels, they have little real world experience of how a motorcyle actually functions in turns and corners, and the concept of countersteering. They just 'cruise' around with their hottie hanging on to the back, usually in a straight line.

he just target fixated and froze.
There are no sparks so it's safe to say he never reached maximum lean. when he stood it up (bad idea), we assume it was to brake, but he never locked a tire so he didn't apply maximum brake. It looks like he just rode into the side of the car.

Poor guy had to hurt after he landed. Yup, he stood her up. Better to low side in your own lane if that's going to be the outcome than a headon in the opposite lane. Impressing this on riders is too important.

Yeah, I agree. Even though it looks like he wasn't traveling very fast, his first mistake, especially on The Dragon, is to be waving for the cameras! Then you look at the carnage after it's over and it may have been a bit faster than we think. The rider looks like he went pretty high in the photos, and landed on his tailbone. OUCH!!!! Hopefully he's okay.

I feel worse for the guy in the vette. Guy is out, just enjoying some cruise when some idiot not paying attention because he is too busy smiling for a camera wrecks your car in a situation that should have never happened.

I bet he leaned in too late after waving at the camera (so cool of him) and then in the middle of the curve let up on the gas because he was too fast for that machine, the suspension (what there is of it) compressed, causing a scrape, freaked him out, stood it up, target fixated on the shinny red vette and fiberglass es-ploded everywhere... :jaw drop:

I hope he didn't face plant in the cool open faced helmet. :hellno:
