So I took the FZ1 on a ride of about 500kms today and on the way home wasn't really paying attention to the fuel gauge and noticed the flashing last bar and the OD counting up. How far will the OD count up before you have your thumb out?

Also if a chap were to get a programmer and map would it help with cruising fuel mileage? I hear that the '06 run rich.

That's 310 miles on one tank!!!!!!!!!!!! Your FZ1 is sipping fuel.

Not quite that far. I had filled up about 100kms into the trip and on the way back refilled at the same station. I was doing a little bit of spirited riding (to say the least)on the way back and when you make it work she sure gobbles up the fuel.

I got 158 miles before reserve kicked in last week, but I was trying something. I stayed at 4000rpm about 61mph for the 25 miles of straight road and then I have 5 miles of town road. So a 60mile round trip. As this is my work commute I dont mind the speed as the speed limit is 55 anyway and the cops dont bother you for 5mph over the limit. But when I ride for fun I only get about 120 before reserve kicks in.

My 01 will typically go 160 to 175 in the city traffic before the light comes on. I can squeeze almost 200 miles out of a tank on the freeway if I watch my speed. If I have fun in turns, around 120 is all I can hope fog. I have a Micron slip on and rejected carbs.

So when the OD starts to count up how many more miles can you go before your on the hoof?

The second gen FZ1 seems to average 32-36 MPG (13.5-15 km/L). The 'reserve'/fuel light comes on with 1 gallon (3.8 litres) left and that means 50-60 km before you're walking

The only way you'll know for sure is if you keep track of your own fuel mileage. Everybody will get a different average. I have seen some people with second gen FZ1s average below 30 MPG and some people much higher

I tried to keep to a cruising speed of 65 - 70 for 100mi and was able to get 38 mpg with my 2012.

That was all on the Interstate with a couple of Goldwings.

Today I filled up at 175 miles with the fuel light on. I have gotten 200 but the is running on fumes. I commute about 60 miles per day 3/4 on highway usually passing slower traffic lol.

If you get 32-36 mpg, and you truly have 1 gallon left at flashing, then in theory, you could go 32-36 miles. I wouldn't push it over 20-25 miles, because I don't want to walk. In fact, I will usually refuel between 80-100 miles. If I've been riding hard, 100 miles is about when it starts to flash.

You can check my fuelly link in my sig, but I think 29 was my absolute worst and 42 was my best. It seems some of those fill-ups were short mileage (I always try to put it away with a full tank) and the error of when to stop filling shows much greater. I think my average is 36, so I'm OK with that. If I ride hard, I expect 32, if I ride normal, maybe 36 and if I really ride like I own a Buick, then close to 40.

I get a regular 40-42 uk mpg, 47 being my best, but that was riding like a nun
Fuel light starts blinking at 110-120. I filled up at 133 miles once and had about 3 litres left.

I have only kept track of my MPG on one trip. It varied between 33.0 and 44.5 depending on the fun factor of the road lol
The combined average over 1030 miles was 38.7 MPG
The furthest I have gone was 172 miles on one tank, but I only put in 3.8 gallons, so I could have nearly hit 200 miles.

My Gen 1 I would typically get 175 miles a tank, pushing to 190 if cruising. My Gen II I just filled up 10 miles into the F-trip and was at 155 miles. But other than a slip on (no EXUP) I'm stock.
