Thru on the Warm and Safe Controller this morning. Was wishing I had my heated gear two days ago when temps were in the low 60s. I opted for heavy gloves and warm clothing over electricity and it was fine..... but it's tough to beat the controllable comfort of heated gear. Temps in western MA not expected to get out of low 60s today, Vermont won't get out of mid 50s. Back into the 70s next week.

The Warm and Safe feed wire off my battery was slightly corroded and needed some attention. I pull the controller batteries in the summer, still looks like new in there.

I'm guessing our members in the southern CA and the US south are rolling their eyes thinking "Wussie" as they are still sitting in some nice heat at the end of Sept.
 
I have been using heated grips for a number of years now. On my second set of Oxfords and love them.

I don't have any cold weather gloves so they help a ton when it is actually down in the 40's or upper 30's for the morning commute.

No way, not a wuss! I use seat heaters in my car on those brisk 60° mornings! It was nice and warm all summer and then just this week it got cold like a switch turned off.

I never considered heated grips until I rented a motorcycle that had them, and they're VERY nice. My "new" blue FZ needs grips (and handlebars) soon so I may get these Oxfords.

That reminds me I need a new jacket. I lost the zip-in liner for my jacket and with cooler weather coming, even Southern California cool, I need some insulation.
 
I leaned on the electricity this afternoon. Did about three hours. Really is a luxury to bask in the warmth. Gotta get back into the ritual of shutting down and unplugging.
 
I guess I'm not early at all, 49 degrees at noon today in western MA, VT and the Poconos. Hoping that mass of warmth and clear skys n the US heartlands move this way.

My phone said 61 when I left the house in the dark this morning. Oxfords at setting 3 kept my fingers perfectly comfortable for the entire ride.

Has been really foggy in the mornings in San Diego County - so I have to keep turning my head from side to side to let the wind blow the drops off the visor.


I picked up a really nice Alpinestars jacket a number of years ago. It is pretty warm in the summer, but I am okay with that cause it is awesome in the winters we have. The zip in liner is too warm for anything above 45 degrees so I tend to just wear a thin jacket and sometimes my windbreaker liner that came with one of my Joe Rocket jackets.

The one thinner jacket I wear zips up really high on the neck to help with warmth.

When it starts to get into the low 50's I wear a scarf on the neck - but I have always wanted to try a balacava.

I did a 240 mile ride last weekend starting near LAX and taking Pacific Coast Highway to Oxnard, hopped on highway 101 then highway 33 to Ojai. PCH was foggy and cold the entire way, once I hit the LA/Ventura county line it was so dense I had the mist on my visor and couldn't see well. It was below 60 and quite cool, upper body was fine (leather/mesh hybrid with no liner - slightly cool but not bad) but my hands started getting cold. I'm getting those Oxford heated grips.

Once I got up highway 33 to the Ojai valley it was sunny and mid 90s. What a dramatic difference. I need to figure out how to prepare for those temperature swings on longer rides. If I get a new jacket with a zip in liner the liner won't fit under the seat. Maybe a soft portable tail bag?

I also want a new helmet. With the gloomy ride up and night time quickly approaching on the ride home, I couldn't see well through my tinted visor. I never really considered a modular helmet but a friend is selling a Schuberth C5 (brand new cheek and forehead padding so not too nasty) that I might pick up. It has the drop down tinted sun visor.
 
I have a bungie net that is always on the bike. Sometimes I strap my backpack to it - lately it has just been my lunch box. On my way home yesterday it was my lunchbox and my Jacket I wore under my coat for the commute down. My bike has a bracket for a hardside top bag that did not come with the bike - but it makes for a good mounting point. As long as you still have the stock passenger handle you can use those to strap to.

Tank Bags are nice as well. I have and use one on occasion.

As someone who moved from Orange County in California about a yr ago…..and despite its near perfect weather. It still gets cold over there! Like someone above said, “on those morning commutes”.
 
Did an extended ride two days ago out to Western Mass. Temps never rose above 50 in the hills. Happy to have the heated jacket, especially at 80 mph. Temps in western Mass were 41 today at noon.

I have a separate turtle neck piece that I can pull on with what ever jacket I'm wearing. Gotta be in the 30s before I try to find the balacava.

Drove around yesterday in the truck doing leaf peeping with the wife. Poor foilage year again with the dry fall. On the way home we pulled up to a rural intersection and there was a wrench in the middle of the road. Told wife to get out and pick it up. She gets back in saying "it says Snap On 17 MM." I said hurry get back in we need to follow his trail.

My first Snap On Tool! I have at least five 17mm wrenches but now that I have a Snap On tool I'll have to start collecting the whole set. Not really. They all work the same.
