Heavy rider suspension setting

I was hoping someone could tell me if I'm on the right path? I got a 2003 fz1 bee and I'm a pretty big guy whose almost at the bikes weight limit and I was wondering where the best place was to set my suspension? Right now I'm bottoming out on my shock for big bumps. I was thinking of setting everything one notch from maximum setting. Would this ruin the handling or make it better because of my weight? Thanks

There is preload adjustment to help put suspension in its proper range but if the bike is under-sprung for your weight, it will not make a huge difference. You will need to buy fork & shock springs to take care of that. The last thing you want is to run out of suspension travel in a corner :(

I'm 200lbs and still felt the bike was a bit under-sprung for me. I went to Racetech's website to figure out what weight of spring I need, put springs in & did fresh seals & fluid in the forks & shock--what a difference.

This website has all the info you need on adjusting your suspension as well:
