I read some where here that gutting the cat from the header can cause resonance or vibrations , any truth in this ?.

I ran for a couple years with a gutted cat. I had no such issues with it. But it also did not make any significant improvement to the bike... marginal at best. There are changes to exhaust tones that are evident.

With the stock muffler, you have to concentrate on the sound to tell any difference at all. Sounds just a touch deeper. It is very subtle, and would not be noticed.
Not sure how much difference would be noticed with a slip-on. Probably a little more noticeable.
