Good Charm Dance Needed

That's exciting!!

My dad worked for the fire department for 35 years.

yeah, much like any big city, the boston fire department is a tough racket to get into. i just happened to be right place, right time, and be a disabled vet. after this i should only have the physical, psych eval. and the physical abilities test left to do (which i have already passed once before). very exciting because it's such a good job and it's so difficult to get to where i am in the process. when i got out of the marines i kept thinking i would probably become a cop, but over time and because of opportunity, i have totally switched and want to be a firefighter very badly. after the list came out, i was 17 out of almost 2000 applicants. so i am very lucky. very good that i am in a position to make that a reality...

I have no idea how hard it is to get into ours nowadays. Really don't know how hard it was for my dad to get into back then either. I'm certainly not fit for the task.

He loved the job though. I don't know what the scheduling is up there, but he worked 24 hrs, off 48.

^^^^ Hahaha, outstanding timing.

I got a call today and I have a second interview this Thursday afternoon. This time it's with the VP of HR, and a Director within HR. Additionally I have to do a 20 minute presentation on the topic of my choice. No it will not be on how to drag your knee, but instead on "On Line Testouts - Objective Knowledge Assessment." Now there is a cure to sleeplessness!

Oh, I'm interviewing with Emerson.

Great to hear Pete! Good luck with the second interview.

Thanks Billy. I think it will go well. Interviews these days are n*t crushers. The first one was over two hours, this one will be right at two hours. And if what the guy said from the first interview is true, I'll have a third. Good Lord.

But this has been fun. I've been going over 20 years of work. I'd forgotten all of the cool projects I'd done over the years. I think this will really help me prep for Thursday.

Best of luck! Glad to hear you made it to round 2.

I'm honestly shocked how interviews have gotten nowadays. When I interviewed for my position I went in, talked to 4 people of varying levels within the department for a total of a couple hours, and that was it.

Then just recently, even to get an internship, one of my friends had to go through three rounds of interviews and a sort of project/presentation.

Well all went well today. I interviewed with the Global HR VP, and then the US HR Director. They had some good but tough questions, and I responded well. My presentation went well too.

I think I'll get an offer. Now I have to decide if I want the job. The kept stressing the amount of admin work and wanted to make sure I understood that.

We'll see.

Well gotta call back, now I have to take a psych evaluation. I have to travel to Dallas or St. Louis. Crazy! Wait, I better not post that!
