Gas tank question

I know on my GenI there is a petcock underneath the tank for shutting off the flow of fuel. I'm not too sure about the GenII bikes though. It may be the same deal. Someone will chime in soon enough.

On the gen 2 you can just unhook the line even when there is gas in the tank. A little bit of fuel comes out of the line so just have a towel underneath to catch it.

Confirmed. After you catch the dribble from unhooking the lines (remove the retaining clip first!) then you can take the tank and set it aside. Always a great idea to go run the tank low anyway though. Makes the job a lot lighter and easier to line up the bolts when putting it back on. :D

:ditto:

You don't want to mess around with removing a tank full of gas if you don't have to. Gas weighs about 6 lbs a gallon...

I just had to remove mine for painting and could not drain all of it, so there will be some in it still. Don't worry it won't leak after removing the fuel line, or at least mine (07) didn't.
