Gas milage

87 octane is all that is required or needed. Anything higher and you've wasted good money.

I hit the blinking light about 110 miles in and can stretch it to 125 if I behave for the whole tank (yeah right!!! :D ) I stop around 130 miles in. You can switch the dash from the reserve count-up back to your trip meter.

Well said....Don't want to start an octane war either..lol..super unleaded is just my preference along with tinted everything....its bright over here in Texas...and I don't ride at night ever......

When I added the Micron Full Exhaust, power commander and had it dyno tuned it had super unleaded in the tank....afraid to go back to regular....when they dyno'd the bike i assume they did some timing changes to the bike....mine would probably not like the regular gas being its not a stock set up.....

All Great info thanks, Guess I'll keep the 87 going till I do my first oil change then flip to mid grade with this Beast of a bike... One thing about 92, it smells better when burned :sport12:

Fuel

I know there is no power or consumption benefit but I run the best premium unleaded here. The only reason is I don't trust the quality standards. I feel that the people driving the expensive cars that require Premium will come back at Fuel Stations if they get bad fuel. In my 2000 mod Ford I run basic (No ethanol) unleaded and it gets 36mpg (Imp) worse if running premium.

Im with you Blanchy I dont trust the fuel quality so premium for me. Normally pull 230km before reserve, which was exactly the same for the 08 R1 I had previously.

My bike chuggs fuel down and I use 98 BP fuel in my beast.

I have plenty of mods and it's geared -1+2 and I average around 30 mpg.

My bike is 99% used for weekend canyon carving (as you guys call it in the States) and I have no faring to help with aerodynamics.

This was true 20 years ago but the EPA regs are so tight, and penalties so severe, that the quality in the regular grade is no different than the high octane blend (even in Australia). Running a high octane fuel only blows the extra octane, and your dollars, out the tailpipe. It's a waste of money using a higher grade than your engine needs. Old habits die hard, but throwing money away makes no sense to me.

Im not sure what my 07 does to the gallon.. what i do know is its a damn sight better than the can am renegade 800 cc quad bike i recently sold.
