Fz1 won't start in 1st gear

Rode in the rain 3 weeks ago. 2008 Fz1 wouldn't start, lights and dash lit up, no sound when pressed electric starter. The bike will only start in neutral. Bike won't start from 1st gear, kick stand all the way up and clutch all the way pulled. Any advise would be appreciated. Took the bike for a ride , no problem.

Sounds like the kick stand switch is not working

+1 on kick stand switch. Reasonable spot to start. And check. Down low and could have been affected by the rain. Use a meter and check continuity at the plug.

The bike should start from Neutral anyways, starting from first gear there is probably still some things dragging and will make starting harder, that's what I feel when I start my bike in first gear specially on cold starts, after the bike is warm 1st gear starts are very easy.

The bike starts in 1st gear month after the electric starter wouldn't kick in. Going to replace the starter and relay assembly. Just in case they got compromised by the rain and 60000 miles on the bike
