FZ1 with 2009 R1 Engine

no -- but why not take R1 bike and give more comfortable ergos as some have done with the risers/bars and such.....

Different frame and probably different mounting points. I am sure it can be made to fit, but wont be an easy job.

Oh and I wouldn't expect to see the flat crank R1 engine in the next gen FZ1 in 2011 (if there is even one). Yamaha seems to always use the previous gen R1 engine in the new FZ1.

Based on the pics, it looks damned close but it would help to have an R1 handy to pull the fairings and spec the mount points.

Your sure as heck right. That does look very similar in the two photos. I'm not sure whether the performance gains doing such a swap would be justified. Someone will probably try it at some time. There's a guy who just installed an FZ1 motor in a quad. He just posted some videos recently and that thing is SICK!

just spend the money to do the mods to unneuter the FZ engine if you are comtemplating trying to swap engines....

That's very true. You'll end up with a bike that puts out 150 RWHP and it's every bit as reliable as a stock one w/o all the hassle of swapping the engine, not to mention cheaper. By the way a stock '09 R1 dyno's in the 155-158 RWHP from what I've seen...

It was just a thought I had. I looked into the spiegler risers and bar exchange and you are right that would be much eaiser. However, recently I sat on a new R1 and it seemed as though the seat is much wider than ours and it almost feels like you are sliding forward toward the tank. I guess I have just been watching too much tv, i.e. moto gp races etc. I think what you guys are saying is do the mods and be happy with what I have, and I think you are right on the nail. Thanks for your thoughts on the idea.

Is there one thread that gives all the modifications from A to Z. I read most everything I can about Mods but not sure of the order and exactly what to do. I did not know if a PC V would work on my 06, for some reason I thought it only worked on the bikes that Yamaha had already altered. Anyway, I am going to take your advice and make the changes. The recent sprockt change I made of putting a 48 on the rear sprocket made a huge low end difference. Its hard to keep the front tire on the ground in first gear.

I don't know of a thread that covers all of the mods but here are the basic ones:

Airbox mod with aftermaket hi-flow filter (BMC seems to be the preferred one).

PC III or V (yes the V will fit all 06-09 FZ1's even though DJ only lists it as fitting the '09). You will need to custom tune it or use one of the available maps that most closely matches your setup.

Full exhaust or if you don't have the money stock header with gutted cat and aftermarket slip-on. Not much of a difference between the two setups on the top end, but you'll be leaving a lot of midrange HP (6-8 HP) on the table by not going with the full exhaust.

And once you do the exhaust you'll also want to plug (or remove) the AIS to avoid the exhaust popping on deceleration.

All these mods combined with your sprocket change will have that front wheel reaching for the sky even in second gear :D

seems like you'd be able to get a block of material and fab something less costly -- but that is if you have access to a quality machinist.....which in my case, I'd have to order from Spiegler....

Don't forget that this price includes all the longer cables and brake lines as well.

All this talk of it, but how about simply buying the R1 and changing the ergos with the Spiegler handlebar conversion kit for $500.00? Throw on a set of Rizomas and adust the pegs to your liking? ;) There's your new R1 Sport tourer.

Man! I thought my mirrors were useless, but now that I see those I'm liking mine now. They seem so close together.

They are as they are the stock orbs which were meant to look (almost) over your shoulder with the R1 clip-ons. With the conversion, I'm betting they are quite useless. You'd almost have to get the FZ1 stalks to put on the bike. Better yet, get a set of bar-mount Rizomas!

yeah -- up to this point -- I've gotten the  from the wife, but she saw the Class Retro Rizomas on the bike this evening and was  -- she lacks the vision that I have and I'm the only one that really has to be happy....
