fz1 not worth alot of money in uk dealers

all the dealers i have talked to say no thanks ... fz1.. are bad salers in the uk.. a hard bike to move on .. most have a couple in stock....
these bikes retail new around £9500.... resale second prices are dropping like a stone... maybe time to get rid of my 2008 FZ1 fast ???? :(:(

If you are looking to sell or need to sell that's one thing. If you like the bike and are just worried about resale value, I would not worry about what the rest of the market thinks. If you like the bike, then who cares what you can get for resale. I just bought a slightly used 2008 FZ1 and could not be happier. Good luck with whatever you decide or need to do. BTW, I lived in England for 3 years (Farnborough, Cove, Aldershot area and then up around Manchester).

you used to live the the uk .. i live in exeter... devon its a small world sometimes :welcome:

It can work both ways, I got my fz1 for £6995 brand new in the uk.. dont bother about resale enjoy now..:tup:
 
You're right about the FZ1 prices in the UK. I bought mine last year but got a real good deal on a used one. It all depends what price you buy it at I suppose. I don't see many bikes making money anyway and after the winter we've had, not much is selling. Roll on Spring :)
 
My 07 Fazer retailed in NZ for 19,995. I got it 2 years sitting in the bike shop no takers 15,500 and have spent another 5 grand on mods and bling. I dont care what the resale is I love my Fazer and will ride it forever. What do you upgrade to after an FZ1 no other bikes turn me on.
 
A bike worths as much as the rider (owner). That includes the "new" owner.

The true value of a bike has little to do with how much a dealer wants to sell one for or give you on a trade. It's what it does for your soul when you are riding it. If your thing is cruisers or standards then the FZ1 probably isn't in your crosshairs. But if you like spirited riding and a machine that makes it easy and a pleasure to cut up the corners, the FZ1 is one of the best and at a price that is far better than the competition. As some of you know now, I just re-traded my Triumph Speedmaster for my FZ1 that I traded for the Speedmaster last April. For my two cents, the thrill I can get riding the FZ1 through the twisties of my favorite roads just can't be attained by putting, cruiser style, through the same roads. I think a couple reasons the naked sport bikes don't sell as many units as the standards or cruisers is it takes more experience to ride a sport bike well if a person is going to use the abilities of the machine and yet keep it out of the ditch or trees. Cruisers or standards are more attractive to new riders or sometimes older riders who are happy just getting from point A to point B, in a casual manner. There are a lot of times when I go out for a spin with my H-D friends and generally they go slower and prefer the straighter roads. Even when they decide to kick it up a bit, they are still a far cry from riding at a pace the FZ is comfortable with. I'm not slamming cruisers or standards becaue I've had my share but one look at a FZ1 or similar bike and you know right away, without anyone telling you, this is a serious motorcyle for people who know how to ride full tilt..........or they better.
 
The FZ1 has never been a good seller second hand in the UK. I traded in my original FZ1 for my R1 and the dealer were stuck with it for over a year, even after dropping the price on it.
I recently looked at getting a 2010 GSX-R750 and three or four dealers that I spoke to wouldn't take the FZ1 in part exchange as they said they'd never sell it! It's not a particularly popular bike in the UK, infact I've probably only ever seen a couple of them out on the roads.

I think fewer dealers will be taking FZ1's as part exchanges soon as they are so expensive new now that sellers will want unrealistic prices for them.

If Yamaha ever do update the FZ1 to a Gen III then they'll end up stick with loads of Gen II's that they'll never shift, at least that's what I'm expecting.
 
As long as it functions, handles, reliable, & i like it i don't worry about resale value. I bought it to enjoy it, Not worry about how much its worth in 5 years.
 
I bought my bike for a "X" price. To date the cost is "X" price x 3.
If I ever decide to sell it, it would be to someone who will keep up my pace.
It then can be a bargain.
As mentioned, selling a bike is easy for some, but for others it is like loosing a friend.
