First Hand Gun

I really enjoyed reading this thread. Even though there were several preferences to which gun each liked, I found there to be enough open mindedness that brands didnt become heavily debated or posts offensive. This thread was very pleasing to go through.

I LOVE guns. I am not a collector of any kind. I do have a couple 12g and a Leaver action "single Shot" 22.

I have always though of a Hand gun My take would be Dessert Eagle 45, Beretta 92, or Taurus 9m or 45cal.
If I got a hand gun only a couple things have to be, one full one handed operation, 2 would prefer all steel. I dont need flashy, Would like Blake rubber grip on SS but Blued would be fine.
A Hand gun would be pretty much sport for me.
My home protection at first grab will be my Beretta A390st 12G. It is gas recoil and very very fast. for a low visibily night shot I prefer not realy having to be "on the mark" to save my family.

Great thread for sure, I loved all the writings and gun pictures was nice eye candy. Great job.

I beleve it has to do with the twist in the barrel. If you gothe the bullet manf. web site that you plan to use they should have every thing you need to know to choose. I am pretty sure winchester has it on theirs. or just google 5.56

I picked up 900 rounds of 62gr FMJ 5.56 on Black Friday.

My Remington 870 with a Knoxx tactical setup and Mossberg shorty barrel has been, and remains, my primary home defense weapon. I just need to get an extension for the mag.

I've gone to compact for concealed carry. My M&P .40 and Kimber Ultra Carry II I just love that Kimber. Nice AR, love that color. I have the M&P in it as well. Need to shoot. I've been a fan of Ammoman but now the buy storm is on. Prices have gone up. For my 40 and 45 ammo I go to Walmart, get the 250 rnd packs. I like this thread as well :chat:

Well I'll add some gun porn. Today was soggy, I've had my AR-15 for 4 years. Got this AR7 yesterday so it was break in day at the range.

@ 50 yeads I didn't so bad.

I went with a Springfield XDM 9mm 4.5" because it came with the adjustable backstraps and all the XDM goodies. I found it easier to shoot than the glock or Baretta.

I am looking at getting the Springfield XDS subcompact. It shoots .45 ACP in a 5+1 single stack making it just a little over an inch thick. In AZ you can conceal carry without a permit because the CCW law was changed/repealed. I can almost fit that thing in my pant pocket

I bought a gun because I was sitting at home one night and a man opened the garage door to the house. My garage door was possessed sometimes and would open on its own. The dude looked at me and turned around and left quick. There have been home invasions in my neighborhood as well increasing over the last year.

home invasions, that is scary stuff. I'd look at the Smith and Wesson M&P compact .40 to. Holds 10, double stacked. There not as FAT as the XD is.. My buddy went XD I went M&P and he's not happy like I am. Be careful with a auto in the pocket..

I know what you mean, it has the 2 safeties, the beaver tail and the trigger, which the lovely sales clerk pointed out if you go to reach in your pocket or waste band and compress the beaver tail safety, then go to pull up using the trigger, boom your name is Plaxico Burress:jaw drop::hellno:

Any ranges around you where you can rent them? ...try them out first?

thats a good idea but they dont rent either of the guns i was looking at....but im gonna look into that next week....the gun i was looking at first was Product: Smith & Wesson M&P45 - Black - Thumb Safety or Heckler & Koch - USA the hk felt so good in my hand....

Feel is one thing but I would find someplace you can test fire them. I was dead set on getting a sig 226 because it felt great in my hand and I liked all the bells and whistles but after test firing, trying to figure out the trigger pull I thought it was too complicated for my skill set as a new gun owner. I ended up with the 4.5" xdm 9mm because it was the most well balanced when firing and I could fire quickly keeping shots on target. It also saved me $200 over the sig. Too bad you're not in AZ, the gun shop I bought my gun from has both of the ones you are looking at for rent and you get a discount if you buy one of them the same day.

I have hunted and shot skeet most of my life. never owned a hand guna and never even had a desire to shot one. ....until recentlyly. I have been shopping for weeks and getting my hands on everything I can in the stores. My two favorite guns came down to the Glock 19 and the Beretta 92. I actually liked the Beretta better but could not justify spending $200 more.

So today I put a 9mm Glock 19 Gen4 on layaway at a local shop. I plan to get it one month from today rather than waiting out the 90 day layaway. That give me 30 days to figure out how I will rationalize it to my wife. :cowboy:

Santa gave me the same Glock, can't wait to try it out.
