Q&A:

Symptoms as follows
check engine light intermittent on & off,
no error codes initially,went to mechanic, bt cldnt find fault as when i was there, the check engine light went off
then tdy code 20 flashed once,
on/off ignition everything back to normal.
any diagnosis?

i noe code 20 is
diagnostic code 20 - Sidestand switch Set ON/OFF the sidestand
ECU code 20 - Intake air pressure sensor or atmospheric

but guess nth to do with the side stand, what wld the other one mean?

what was flashed is the no.'20' only
hw to tell if its a diagnostic code or a ECU code?



oh and its a Fz1 '07,
-not servo motor issue as its intact
-cld it be ivan's FCE problem? cos heard dat if the fce faulty that particular code will be reflected...
 
Error code 20 says to check the following:

Atmospheric pressure sensor hose is
clogged.
• Intake air pressure sensor hose is clogged,
kinked, or pinched.
• Malfunction of the atmospheric pressure
sensor in the intermediate electrical potential.
• Malfunction of the intake air pressure sensor
in the intermediate electrical potential.
• Malfunction in ECU.

The cause states: When the main switch is turned to "ON", the atmospheric pressure sensor voltage and intake air pressure sensor voltage differ greatly.

Well if you have Ivan's FCE and try to start the bike with the side stand down (clutch pulled it) you will get this code. It resets itself after you turn the ignition on and off. Simple fix is to make sure your side stand is always up before trying to start the bike.
 
Nothing like bringing a thread back to life!

Ok, Ive had this problem for a little while intermittently, however last time I rode the bike I noticed the fuel economy reduced dramatically (I couldn't be bothered to pull over and stop/start the bike to get rid of the engine management light).

Can anyone please advise me where about the two sensors in question are located as tomorrow I have a day off which I am going to spend sorting this problem and covering the bike in ACF50...

I get this code when I turn the ingition on and the sidestand is down. If I put up the sidestand and then back down, it goes away and doesn't come back until the next time I cold start the bike. I went from a stock bike to a full exhaust, PC III, PC IM, FCE, air box mod, sub throttle plates overnight, so I can't say what change or changes cause it. From the posts here it seems to follow the FCE.

Have you checked to see if the sidestand switch is sticking? Might just need to be cleaned and freed up. Check to see that the sidestand is fully engaging the switch throughout the up/down movement while the bike is on the center stand.

It is the FCE causing the code. Mine does the same exact thing and this has been well documented. Easy fix...don't start the bike in gear with the side stand down. I have no issues when I start in in neutral.
 
Tried all of this today and no joy. Still the same.

I'm going to try and buy the three sensors in question:

Intake air temp sensor
Intake air pressure sensor
Atmospheric pressure sensor

Ill fit these and see if that remedies the fault.

Does anyone know where I can get these from in the UK?

Well in the past few weeks the fault has gone from intermittent to permanent.

Im guessing that it has got to be a faulty sensor... So Im going to try and source the three sensors and replace all three of them.

I shall be back to update... althogh it may be a few months down the line!
 
I'm back, just to update this as it may help others who do a good search.

I stripped the bike down to remove the bloody thing!

Got all the way down to where the ECU connection is (cut wire from the plug) and found it to be a very loose connection. I gave this a little tug an it came out very easily.

So I stripped an re-crimped and VOILA! Error code gone.

Bike all back together, start the bike up, Fault Code 20 AAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!!!

However, now it is off more than on. If I start the bike and the fault code on present, I leave the bike running for just a few seconds and then stop and start it and it disappears. So... It works! I'll be back for an update if anything else happens, until then, I consider this solved.
 
I have the same thing since I installed the FCE. It's Intermittent, but annoying. Mine has nothing to do with the side stand, up or down, doesn't matter. Sometimes I get the CEL sometimes not, cold starts and even warm/hot starts, I can usually switch the bike on-off-on until it goes away, but that can be embarrassing and It's just darn annoying.. Runs/idles rough when the CEL is on, so I can't/don't just ignore it.

On the other hand, the plus' of the FCE out weigh the negatives. Great midrange power increase and smooth throttle response.
I just wish the intermittent CEL issue could be resolved.

You are not alone! There are so many people with the same problem.

I'm glad I found the loose connection though and like you will put up with it. I think that whenever I come to sell the bike I'll have to remove it as personally would never buy a bike with an intermittent engine management light!
