Changed your own fork oil?

Has anyone done this? Do you really need the fork spring compressor tool and all that? Do you really need to tear it all down just to change the fork oil? Thanks for the help!

Well that depends...If you just want to change the oil that comes out when you take off the fork cap then no. However, if you want to be able to get all the oil out (by strocking the dampener rod) then yes you will have to take your forks apart. If you don't then it will be like changing your engine oil and only draining part of it...just my :2cents:

If you want to do it right, you'll need to remove the spring. If you don't, besides not draining out all of the old oil and dirt, you cannot measure the correct fork oil height, which is critical to ensuring proper function of the forks.
