Chain cleaners/ scrubbers ?

Was looking for an easier way to clean the chain & almost ordered the 3 sided brush thing & came across another brush that cleans 360*, it looks a little messy but I might clean more throughly, has anyone tried this spiral brush? is it as durable as the 3 sided one?

I grabbed the grunge brush a few months back, but honestly, I still use my old dirty toothbrush / kerosene if my chain grimy.

I've used the only the 3-sided one - but looking at the two, I think I would prefer the long-handle, because you can keep your distance and scrub the chain in "auto-mode" with bike idling in 1st-gear on the center-stand without much danger.

I would never have my hands near the chain while idling...

have a buddy with about 3.5 fingers less on one hand because of that :eek5:

Now that I think of it... maybe I just manually rotated the rear tire with my hand - and in reverse direction - so with the brush on the bottom the chain it's moving away from the rear sprocket. I guess you could easily do that with the spiral brush too...

Toiler brush chain cleaner

A toilet brush from 99 cents store can be a great substitute to these chain brushes at a fraction of the cost, I'll get one & try it out, put it on you tube as the newest chain cleaning gadget.

Many of the brushes mentioned in this thread are large and cumbersome. A toothbrush is just too small and too soft. Harbor Freight, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc, sells some small nylon brushes (about twice the size of a toothbrush) for a couple of bucks. They are easy to handle and do an excellent job cleaning the chain.

I use a denture brush. Much larger than a normal toothbruse as it doesn't need to fit inside the mouth. LOL But it does the job. Then a wipe down with some newspapers followed by a spray of my remaining 'old formula' DuPont chain lube from Lowes.

i will stick with the "standard brush" and motor degreaser with some brake clean for the really gungey chains.
will always come out shiny clean.
then i follow up with some gun protectent spray lube.

I use the smell good degreaser--Orange something or other from Dollar Tree--and a rag to clean the chain. Followed by Dupont Dry wax lube. I actually found some cans of the "old stuff" the other day at Northern Tool and picked up a couple. I have the chain wax stuff dupont makes but like everybody else, I don't like it as much.
