brake pads ...

has anyone tried the Brembo pads ?
I've found SBS, EBC, Brembo, and other brands. SBS is supposed to dust a lot and wear out really fast, EBC I don't know anything about but i'd like to (about durability, bite, etc) and Brembo is supposed to be the best, but how long do they last ?

OEM pads last forever, or so it seems ..
 
Instead of starting up a new thread I will bring this one back from the dead.

Looking to purchase some new front Pads for my 02FZ1. The shop was quoting me $35.00 per pair for the OEM pads. I bought the bike with 15k and now have close to 17k so I am "guessing" the ones on the bike are the OEM's? Do they last that long?

I was checking around and since I have to buy two sets I am trying to save some monies. Looks like the higher end HH stuff is around $45.00 per pair, and the cheaper Organic Semi-mettalic is around $25.00 per pair, so that is a big difference in price when buying 2 sets.

If you read my post about new tires you will know the majority of my riding is for commuting, not for attacking the mountain twisties, so I have very little braking in a daily 60-70 mile round trip commute. Entering and exiting the freeway etc.

As I mentioned I am not sure if the pads on there are OEM, but they brake just fine for my needs.

I am thinking I can get away with the Cheaper pads since I am not an aggressive rider, this bike will never see the track.

Has anyone on here used a pad like this? Remember I am a commuter, not a weekend warrior, my bike usually sits in the garage over the weekend.
 
I've been looking into the brake pads jungle, and my conclusion was the following.
Brembo sounds nice, but they wear out quickly and dust a lot, but have good initial bite.
OEM pads last forever (had mine for over 22000 km, still good) but it feels like I have to use some force on the brake lever before stuff happens.
EBC pads were what I decided for last time. A good initial bite, and longer lasting. I think I was looking at sintered pads ..

Your current pads are more than likely the OEM ones. They last for a long time! Given your type of riding I'm sure the cheaper organic pads will suit your needs just fine...

NJFZ1 is right, I bet a set of EBC 'Organic' GG pads are perfect for you. I've always found that while I do like the extra bite from using HH pads, you do lose a lot of feel; they take some time to heat up before grabbing, they don't respond nearly as well in the wet and they definitely don't last as long.

For a bike equipped with great brakes out of the box like the FZ1, a more street-friendly pad is always nice. Some of the bikes I've owned have had pitiful stock brakes and I had to make the switch to HHs just for some real bite.
 
EBC HH Pads

I recently purchased a full set (3 rotors) of EBC HH pads from Motosport for $94 dollars delivered and that was a 3 day delivery. I expect to have them installed this week and can't yet tell you how well they work but the ratings on these pads are consistently high.
 
I've been reading about brake pads for my 2008 FZ1 trying to decide whether to stick with the OEM pads or buy some Aftermarket pads. I had the bike into the dealer recently and asked the opinion of their Gold level Technician. He recommended using the OEM pads...and after pricing them at the dealer $42./pair I decided to look around more.

After checking prices on the "premium" sintered Aftermarket pads I went back and looked to get OEM pads again. I found and just ordered 2 pair of OEM pads..Part # 5SL-W0045-00-00 from Dillon Motorsports online store as they have them discounted to $30.97/pair. That is less than most aftermarket pads and I have been very pleased with how the OEM pads have performed.

I thought I'd let the folks on the forum know that they can get a good price on OEM pads right now.

Can anyone help me, please. On authorized service center Yamaha I bought 5JJ-W0045-00-00 brake pads for FZ1 2006. Today at assembly I saw that brake pads are not the same. Otherwise, the only visible difference is in additional metal plate, but I still worry how good will brake this pads. The correct code should be 5SL-W0045-00-00. Of course, I can remove additional metal plate, but how good is braking material?

I found answers for my problem.

On the back of a brake pad are 2 letters. OEM (5SL-W0045-00-00) has GG, 5JJ-W0045-00-00 pads has HG.

Friction rating is measured by the torque produced (directly related to friction) by a pad material rubbing at a defined load against a cast iron drum. The torque is measured cold and hot and the friction level equates to a letter. Letter A is low friction, letter H is the highest. So a HH pad is more powerful hot and cold than a GG pad.

That means 5JJ-W0045-00-00 pads are better than OEM. Strange thing is only that the 5JJ-W0045-00-00 pads are a little cheaper.

Yep this happened to mine, a dark almost black line around the disk. My MOT inspector had never seen it before in 30 years of being a mechanic!

Changed to Bendix MF pads now, and so far they're superb!
