Blocking the AIS

Hello! I have been tasked with blocking off the ais on my 2002 FZ1. I was wondering if I could just plug the hole from the airbox or if I had to do the whole system and tap it straight from the engine. Any help would be very appreciated!

Technically, you can just plug the holes. But the real reason everybody does it is to remove the whole system and install the block off plates. This is for declutter purposes and also to provide more access to the spark plugs.
