Annoying

I'm sure it's been covered.

My oil light is annoying me.

A lot.

Anyhow, when I get start riding, it comes on randomly and stays on for a bit, then turns off and :blahblah:

This is common, right? Oil level is fine.

Issue when you first head out for the day?

Mine did the exact same thing the other day.....

Oil level should be damn near to the top of the window.... it's not like other bikes where the level is 1/3 f the way up the sight-glass... you should barely be able to see a small bubble at the top of the glass.

I would imagine that the oil level light relies on some sort of float like device to determine the oil level. Might be sticking that's all. Not sure it can be fixed w/o replacing it, but if the oil level is fine just let it be...

Check out Pat's motorcycle page website he makes reference to this problem, as va rider said fill the sight glass full never a problem.

We recently had the same prob on her 2005 FZ1, also with oil filled to proper levels in sight glass.
She bought an extended warranty, so I made the dealership change the sending unit under warranty.

Problem gone!



For a while, I was worried it may be an oil pressure problem, but the oil lamp lighting was so random and didn't seem tied to any rpm or speed. But fortunately, just the sending unit.
