Adjustable Dumbells?

I have a set that I really like from Gold's Gym. They are adjustable to 50 lbs and that is kind of a limiting factor. However you have to make some concessions to work out at home and save the gym memberships. It's just so expensive to have a a complete weight set.

I waited until these were on sale and picked them up at Academy. $250 and it came with a stand. I have to say that I am pretty happy with them and I would recommend them.

I went with a gym membership...

$20 / month... and there is "motivation" to keep going

although I dropped off any weight lifting and mostly play racquetball. I still go three or four times a week.... when I bought dumbells/perfect pushups/etc... I used therm for months, then they sat.....

it's also interesting that most of the trainers at the gym, never use weights... they teach body weight exercises... lunges, pushups, dips, leg lifts... etc... about the same all of the new exercise videos teach...

sorry.. can't help, just rambling.... but maybe give you some things to think about

No brainer - go with the CAP. $800 is too rich for a set of dumbells. They are a bunch of weights to me. I am old school .. I just switch weights. Not yet gotten that lazy ....

Yeah, I looked at the CAPs at Academy last night and they look pretty good. I'd get an adjustable bench, and some floor mats to go with. I've never seen the Bowflex weights in person.

I've had gym memberships on and off over the years, now I'd like to have something at home so I don't have to drive to the gym. I rather spend those 10 minutes exercising.

At my last job, I helped hire our Wellness program manager. He was a running back a Central Missouri, back up Delanie Walker of the 49ers, and taught me some very effect exercises I can do at home.

The Bowflex weights are nice. Easy to adjust and are sturdy but are the worth the $$$ thats alot of money. I have also tried the others also easily adjustable and they have more weight. Only difference is a few hundred $ and they don't have the Bowflex name to back them up. Cause everyone loves bowflex.

Get a gym membership! There huge weight inventory is worth the 20-60 dollars a month. Its all about self motivation. Once you start going its easy to continue a body in motion would rather stay in motion. Just my 2 cents.

I haven't had a gym membership in years........
Are they still roping you into a 2 or 3 year contract? That totally sucked!!! Not sure if they still do it but I only did that once - then I switched to the locally owned gyms.

Pretty amazing what a handful of hotties can do to your motivation at the gym...LOL

Never tried the rubber band? Some of them comes in sets of 3 different rate and you can combine them together. Medicine ball and few other old school widget like that work great. I looked into those weight stack too. The Boflex look great but way too expensive for what it is. I have a set of 8 and 12 lbs dumbell too that I use sometime.

I got $20/month with a small upfront fee (otherwise they were quoting out $30-40), about a year ago, no contracts... people didn't want them and they knew they were losing business because of it.

you know me too well

I have found that I like variety in my workouts. I use weights, machines, objects, body weight exercise, you name it. I get bored if I do the same workout for weeks.
I have done the P90X program (didn't like all the crap I had to have to do it), did the Insanity program (I like the fact that when I traveled I could do it anywhere), and I have a gym where I work. I have had gym memberships in the past and I am pro-gym mainly for the sight seeing and indoor basketball courts :)
I have used the blocks, and bowflex and both did their jobs. I love kettleballs, but having enough of a variety to do all of the exercises I do takes up too much space at my apartment. Once I retire (two years to go) I will set up my gym again like I had in California and I will have a full set of kettleballs as well as dumbbells.

Give up on weights go to a climbing gym. a good combination of yoga and pliametrics. Not to mention much more fun. Weights are for body builders.

Oh we do climb. We have a killer climbing gym, inside of old silos! It's totally cool.

I do like weights because I can do specific exercises for the track, in addition to cycling.
