a succesfull successor for my beloved FZ1 GenII

Everybody I know who own`s the BMW 1200GS love`s them and boy can they fly in the twisty sections, not many road bike`s can keep up.A friend of mine say`s if you are looking at the 800cc offroad bikes do`nt ride the BMW1200GS or you will be forced to find the extra cash to buy it.

True.

I had an 09 GS ADV and its the best all round bike Ive ever owned.
If it had had another 25hp I never would have sold it.

It's all in the meat attached to the handlebars :) I've ridden with a really fast and super smooth guy on an R1150GS (the bike in Doug's KTM photos) and I was really impressed with how capable it was. I guarantee if we switched bikes, he would have left me in the dust just the same. I'm just crap and he's not ;)

I got a chance to ride a Multistrada on a tight bumpy mountain road. I changed the bike over to Enduro mode and enjoyed ride. Getting back on my FZ1, I felt like my teeth were going to bounce out.

And.What.A.Bike.Is.The.New.KTM Adventure. Lovin' it!

Do I have to...:needpics:

Sweet choice, if I was shopping for a new bike the Adventure would be at the top of the list. When the road turns to gravel and gets rough you will leave all those other wanna be adventure bikes in the dust.
I just turned 15,000 miles on my KTM and love it!

I asked the dealer what price they could give for my FZ1, 'cause I'll have to cash her in if I would be able to by this bike (yes got a tight budget yet which may be releaved once al my kids have been graduated (the youngest ones in hmm 20 years  )

Casual Observations

I sat on one of the 1190 Adventures at my local shop the other day when I was picking up parts. I had a real good look over.

The stock seat is wider, flatter and firmer than the 990's

Screen is adjustable, just not on-the-fly.

The Clutch housing is larger in diameter, clutch must be as well?

The Water-pump housing is a complete redesign and has much larger in and out diameters for increased flow.

There is a cooler of some sort near the water-pump, Oil Cooler?

Swing arm is a totally new design, with the adjuster bolt exposed at both ends, so no un-noticed corrosion problems like a internal bolt.

radial brake mounts up front on both the 19'(Standard) or 21" (R model) front.

New design, standard gauge cluster.

Grab rails for passenger smartly designed to allow straps to be slid under the front, since they are only attached at the back. They felt sturdy.

Fit and finish is excellent!

Only real downside for me was the position of the sump tank. Factory plastic skid plate would need a serious replacement if the plan was to do off road. Otherwise it is very vulnerable! It does have a nice site glass to check level.

Decided! Triumph 800XC

It took quite some sleepless nights and considering all options, reflections on what the mind said and the heart fell, but decision has been made. Based on the feedback and experience from other riders, personal experience on restrides, and an opportunity I could not ignore, I decided today on a 2013 Triumph 800XC bike with just 800km on the clock, full 2year warranty and 1year road assistance included.

A big advantage is I can keep my FZ1 :sinister:

It must have taken a great deal of will power to resist the 1190. Looks like a win being able to keep the FZ as well. Congratulations on the new arrival. ;)

Why in the world would you get a Tiger? :p

ask me that question again in a year after several 1000 miles...

@Oldschool: yes it was heartbreaking not able to go for the KTM...market in Belgium is not favouring our FZ1 bikes so wasn't getting enough cash for it...and in five years I can get the KTM Adventure next model

@ Damn Yankee: pictures of the bike at the shop... Hope to get it in my shop before Xmas
