2003 Factory Bar End Type/Size

I just picked up a 2003 FZ1 and it looks like it has the factory handlebars, grips and bar ends. I want to replace the grips but the bar end bolts seem to be stripped off inside and one is scratched and rusted inside and out. What is the head type and size: hex, torx.... Are they loctited from the factory. Is heat needed to remove them? Should I get one of those biting bits and try to back it out?

The bar ends are supposed to be an Allen shape (hex). If they are that badly deformed then you should just use a Vice-Grip around the whole bar end to remove it. You'll want to replace them anyway as otherwise you wont be able to tighten them properly when assembling everything again. And they may have a little bit of thread sealer on them. Who really knows what the previous owner did to them.
